frustrated and exhausted

we have had the worst spring here on record in vancouver, and then we get a heat wave over night this weekend. everyone of my well cared for roses has broken out with yellowing of leaves and are falling off. this happens within hours and only seems to affect the older leaves. i do not believe it is a disease because even my neighbors roses have got it. there is vigorous growth on all of them, but i am unfamiliar with what is causing the yellowing. i wonder if itis simply shock to the plants- not seeing the sun and very unseasonably cold, to scorching heat over night. anybody else out there in vancouver experiencing the same thing? sorry i do not have pics but it is simply a fading and yellowing of the older leaves at a very fast rate of advancement ty.
