You are lucky. I have to worry about everything you listed This year I had BS and aphids and I am sure the JBs are on their way. The only good thing is we never have a hard freeze so none of my rose die back and I have a longer blooming season (when the JBs are kept under control).

Please don't hit me. So far no blackspot, rust or mildew, also no RRD. We have no JP's or thrips. We do have aphids but only for a few weeks. We never have prolonged freezes, but it does get hot in the summer. The growing season is from March to December although some roses like Mutabilis never stop blooming. All in all, it doesn't get much better than this.

I don't normally have to worry about rust, JB's (though I did find 4 dead ones last year--yikes..). I have very little if any BS or PM as I keep my plants healthy, watered from below so the leaves don't get wet all the time, and I spray monthly with a rotating fungicide schedule to make sure I don't end up with a disease resistant strain in my garden.

Frankly, growing roses without winter die back, canker, black spot, Japanese beetles and midge is for wimps. Might as well just grow dandelions!

For the last 2 years I have had these little green spiders on my pale roses. They seem to be controlling my thrips. Here is a picture of one. I believe this is the 'full grown' version as I have never seen one bigger than this...but many that are smaller.

We don't seem to have rust in my area and downy mildew is not something I see much of. This year I had powdery mildew but that is also rare. There is a lot of BS pressure in my area but I don't grow roses that are prone to infection. All in all...even with the JBs....its pretty good rose country in my garden.

What don't I have to worry about?: deer and rabbits, not enough cover for deer, stray kitties keep rabbits away

Japanese Beetles...yet. They can be found to the north, south, east and west of me, but I have never seen one in my garden to date, thank heavens. I don't know how Harry and the rest of you deal with such horrendous infestations each year.

I've never encountered thrips, japanese beetles or RRD.
There are deer around here but they don't come into my yard.
We have BS and PM due to soggy weather but a fairly refular spray program keeps them at bay.

Anyone telling me that I can't buy more roses...

No rust, deer (although, a neighbor said she saw a buck coming between our houses a few years ago), chilli thrips or RRD (although I know it is in Somerset County). Haven't seen a bunny in a few years.

Neighbors w/dogs are usually considerate, but last year one allowed his to do his business on Conundrum and swore that he didn't see it when I confronted him (he was looking right at the dog). Haven't seen him since.

I have all of the above, plus snakes, nosy neighbors who complain about my thornbushes, wind gusts that blow you out of your shoes and a plummeting bank account. Top that!

I am glad we live in a valley that protects us from severe weather for the most part. On the tomato forum you often hear peoples' stories about high winds and tornadoes and huge hail. Yowzers.

OH the plummeting bank account I can well relate to. When I bring home ONE rose it is a big deal to me. Partly because then I also have to find accomodation for it, being restricted to patio pets.

Hmm, no blackspot, no deer (outer areas have javalina), no rabbits (in this block), no Japanese Beetles, no downy mildew (got plenty of powdery mildew though), no RRD, no nematodes, no hail, no tornados, no floods, no hurricanes and no neighbors chopping my roses down.

What I have is 6 months of heat, dust storms every evening for a month, no rain since sometime in February maybe and a water bill that looks like it. And no, I don't want to trade off for somebody else's problems except for 3inches of rain. Four inches would probably flood the doggone streets, lol. Somebody found scorpions in their roses once and I've been real careful ever since...

I'm from Oklahoma, so tornados are especially important to me (See current death toll on National News for last week-end). Since our heavy clay soil means no basements the best defense we have against a tornado is prayer. Yup that's about it..........Aside from instant death, I don't have to worry about Deer or JB's yet. Of course we can have Grasshoppers the size of small airplanes, and let's not forget the Cucumber Beetles (just smaller versions of JB's),and Thrips (not Chilli Thrips Thank God). But hey, somehow we manage.

Rust, PM and Downy Mildew are not big issues here. The climate is not so hot or cold that my rose choices are limited. Drought is rarely an issue here, so watering is rarely needed on established roses. The springs and autumns are fairly predictable making sudden freezes uncommon. And yes, even Japanese Beetles have a good side. They bring my neighbors and I closer together in our quest to destroy them off the face of the earth=).

I guess I should be more grateful. We don't have javelinas, feral hogs, scorpions or hurricanes. We had winds just shy of 60 mph last week and I have roses and iris blooming that look like they live in a greenhouse. I guess they are like people, and what doesn't kill them just makes them stronger. I also have excellent soil, plenty of free mulch, compost and water, and that makes it easier to survive all the other maladies. We have lots of sunny days, and most summers, average humidity in the 20s to 40s, which is wonderful.

I also do have RRD, deer, rabbits, gophers, feral cats using my beds for litter box, son in law's monster dog (150 lbs.) running through garden and, of course, invited guests who can't resist free beer and ultimately tumble into Tamora.

No poisonous creatures (snakes, spiders, scorpions...). I don't know what rust looks like.

Alas, the JBs arrived here (MN) two years ago, and last year was a bad one. The wave is marching westward.
