How to Fix 'Chunky' Bagged Potting Soil?

I bought several 40 bags of "potting soil" from a local box store. The bags were thick and heavy. Upon opening, the dirt was very dense and came out in large chunks. We put one bag in a raised bed with three very normal bags of "top soil". I broke up the chunks as best I could and left the mixed pile out for a couple of days then added a nice bag of compost. I mixed it up as best I could, but now that bed has been planted, there are still lots of small chunks left.

My question is, how should I fix the remaining bags of this weird potting soil so that I can use it? Should I try leaving an open bag out to throughly dry then bash it up with a shovel?
