Need quick advice on tree purchase

We have just purchased some acreage and plan on buildin ga home in 3 years. We want to get some trees started so they'll have time to grow. We want to put some type of pines along the sides of the property and some hardwoods in the front.

We have the chance to purchase seedlings at a very inexpensive price $1-2/tree. We're wondering if we plant them on the property and water them 1x a week if they'll survive. There is no shade it the areas we have planned for the pines. Also the area around the plot is wooded, so there are a lot of animals. Will rabbits, deer, squirrels etc. nibble on our seedlings and kill them?

Would we be better off to plant them in wooden boxes at home and keep them watered and partially shaded on the deck and then try to transplant them in the fall, when they'll be a bit larger?

OR, are seedlings going to be difficult to keep alive in our circumstance and we're better off buying saplings?

Thanks for quick responses! The tree sale is tomorrow!
