I think the cherry would look better where the pear used to be. Unless you're going to add several more trees out in the main yard, I think it's going to be too symmetrical.

I agree with the others about the cherry tree. I planted a Yoshino cherry tree last fall and it looked so pretty with its little blooms on it a couple of weeks ago. They are one of my favorites.

I enjoyed looking at your yard and home. I love your sun room. I have a painted big ol' saw like yours. My mother painted mine for me as a birthday gift a few years ago. I also noticed you have a pretty little future model too.

I have to tell you my house doesn't look like that anymore. That picture and the ones with it are from before I bought the house. It's very different now. Even the front has changed very much. The saw isn't mine either, Linda, it's the previous owners.

If you want to see what my sunroom looks like you have to go to the main page and then to album 8. The front yard is totally changed, every tree out there is gone, along with the juniper under the big window. All the new trees are in and I'm watering them, raking up little tree branches from the old pear tree so I can mow. I didn't realize the whole yard has been covered in them all winter. Oh, and the backyard is different too, the weeping cherry is about five times bigger and there's no longer a pool and deck. There was another Bradford pear out there behind the outbuilding that broke in another ice storm right after I moved in. I'm also going to have to take out the big redbud, half of it is laying in the yard right now, it's even blooming. ) :

I agree with everyone else. Plant it where the old tree was planted. I was curious and looked it up. The Japanese Flowering (Yoshino) Cherry has a spread of about 25' - 40' at full maturity. Did you take that into consideration? You have a very nice home and yard and the tree will look beautiful there.

Yes, Clare, I know, I wanted a big tree. At first, I was thinking Sugar Maple because I love the colors in the Fall. Then I thought about two dwarf sweet cherries...then I saw the Yoshino, which I think are the same trees planted in Washington D.C. I used to want my driveway down south lined with them.

I realized my front lawn doesn't look so golf-course-like anymore also. The previous owner used to spray her lawn every year, I don't like using chemicals so I have dandilions.

I dug up a tulip tree at my Tulsa house, to replant in Edmond next week, when I am back home.

Sounds like you got a lot of work done. Will you post another picture, with the new trees?

Just don't plant the future 40 ft tree too near to the house or garage. If within 20 ft of the bulding, it will seem fine for the first 10 yr or so until it begins to attain greater height and suddently spreads. It is too close if any branches overhang a roof or any branch tip comes within 10 ft of a building. Leaf and litter from the tree will clog the rain gutters. Should a limb break in a storm, there should be space for it to fall. Limbs overhanging a roof prolongs dampness on the roof and promotes moss or lichen on the shingles.

Moni, I just posted pictures in another post. Sorry for the hurry, it was supposed to rain and it kept clouding up. The storm is here now, too late for me to take my car and vacuum it out. Dang! Now, don't know if I want to grocery shop or not. I guess I'm going to have to.

Jemdandy, that probably explains why my sunroom leaked this winter, the previous owner planted a weeping cherry right up against that corner of the sunroom. I have to get the ladder out and take a look at it.
