Thank you Ruth but it has to be dumb luck and maybe just the location. These roses do love our climate. Karenleigh, if you have the room I think you need Peggy. Perle d'Or is about my favorite also. Never a problem in the world. Huttnem, I'm space challenged also. So many roses and so little space. Thank you Mary. My Peggy Martin is planted in the worse location in my garden and still thrives real well. Maybe she loves harsh conditions huh? SeattleSuze, I know very well about the size possibilities of Peggy. I've talked to her on a couple of occasions. She had a pic of one that her brother grew and never pruned, scary to say the least! I think yours will love the beautiful structure you've made. Thanks Florence. The story of Peggy was what made me have to have her although I don't have the space.

The ZDs on our fence (3' high) go out on either side about 6 feet. Two that are on the deck go stright up 6' or so then spread out the same. So I'd say you get about 12 feet coverage. However, I'd use two per side on the 12' side of you dog run. Make sure you direct the canes where you want them to go while they are growing. They loose their flexibility very quick so tie them as they grow, don't wait until you get a long cane. You get no flowers on vertical growth so take that into account. That's about the limit of my rose knowledge so I'll let the others take over from here.

Question for all of the rose experts... my Schon Ingeborg shot up 3 huge new canes over the summer. I am training one laterally to the right, one laterally to the left and let one go straight up. The cane that I let go straight up is 6 feet tall!!! It's going to be above that 8 foot fence by the end of fall for sure. It's thick, but still pliable enough that I could probably train it sideways if I was careful and patient. Should I? Or should I keep it as is and have faith that there will be more canes and laterals that will fill in along the fence? Schon Ingeborg is not supposed to be a climber of course, but I'm taking advantage of the CA weather and my fertile soil and growing it as one. Thank you for your advice! Here are some photos. You can't really see the canes I'm training laterally since they intertwine with others roses, but you can definitely see the 6ft tall cane going straight up. I have a pink and white theme here and have it between a couple of Icebergs.

Thank you dizzylizzy, Diane and Lisa. Diane they are both Bourbons. MEC is a sport of MME ISAAC PEREIRE and KATHLEEN HARROP is a sport of ZEPHIRINE DROUHIN. I like them both better than the other two. Like most of my Bourbons (except for SDlM) they only have a few scattered blooms after the first flush. I used to think I didn’t want roses that didn’t repeat frequently, but I enjoy them while I’m waiting for the others to begin their show. I do think it’s going to be a good season, everything is very healthy and I have lots of buds, However, we’ve had June/July like weather and all weekend lots of wind, Ive been doing a lot of watering. Lisa, I’m not sure. Seems like I saw KH listed in RU and looked it up on HMF, loved the color, and thought it was charming, that’s why I got it. Some fuller blooms today on MEC

Those look great! The Belinda's Dream blooms look huge and perfect. That's a rose I've always admired, but never grown. My poor McCartney Rose...last year my dogs were chasing each other and ran through the bush taking out the entire middle with only one cane left on opposite ends. This year, canker took out all but one cane on each end. Good to see a bush shot of him looking much better than my 2 cane wonder :)

I'm so jealous! I only have one rose plant in full flush so far. Its great seeing whole bush shots too. Liebeszauber is one I've never seen before, I have to go to HMF and look that one up. Tiffany is especially beautiful too.

Thank you for showing these, I love full bush shots! And it's so encouraging seeing other's roses already in bloom. Tiffany has always enticed me.

I have to say, I've held my McCartney with little regard. The roses are lovely, but my bush is a 7ft tall gangly monster. I have to say, it's not really the rose's fault. I've done practically nothing to it, it just keeps coming back year after year. The spot I had planted it in really calls for a smaller rose.

Thank you. Tiffany is a great rose, I love it. I don't think I planted my McCartney in a big enough spot either, it has grown really fast. I think McCartney is a pretty rose, but I like it mostly for the fragrance which is very nice.

Sara-AnnÃ¢ÂÂ¦wonderful pictures. Your roses are beautiful and healthy. Tiffany is my favorite rose and yours is outstanding. No roses blooming here yet, but I am surprised that I only lost a few. Many are trying to come back. Late blooms this spring. Keep sharingÃ¢ÂÂ¦your roses are lovely. Lesley

Thank you, Lesley - I am so glad to hear from you and happy to know your roses fared better than you first thought, can't wait to see your beautiful gardens. I do agree, Tiffany is an outstanding rose, both mine have lots of blooms, the one in the picture looks a little better than the other one.
