Does Electron grow well in your area? It usually got about 4 ft tall and about 3-1/2 ft wide and had plenty of bright pink flowers. The bush also is thorny enough to deter burglars.

Ceterum, I have a one-story house...I'm guessing now...I'm 5 feet tall, bottom of window comes to my chest, so maybe 4 feet from the ground. Remember, I have to consider the ugly foundation (8 inches from ground up). RU is out of Laguna, on waiting list for 2011.

I believe someone mentioned somewhere that Gertrude Jekyll was v. thorny and v. fragrant.

From what I have planted this year, I am looking forward a lot for Nahema, which supposed to be a smaller climber and also for Madame Isaac Pereire, for the color and legendary fragrance (I spotted 2 buds on the Mme, yipee).

If it was me, I would plant just about anything but a rose! They just aren't that short in Texas. Not even the minis. Not even the groundcovers!

I wonder if one of the shorter Austins might not serve you well. Chaucer, Wife of Bath, Sister Elizabeth, Glamis Castle, Grace and Mary Magdalene I believe stay reliably short and are fragrant. For the me most fragrant has been Sister Elizabeth and I love its lilac pink color although so far this rose has been a sprawler for me, but it's less than two years old I believe.

Clotilde Soupert? I guess in a hot sun position there is no chance for her to ball and her fragrance is great.
Jardins de Bagatelle - my two plants never reached 4 ' tall but the perfume! - now of course maybe someone from California can contradict me by saying that there this rose is 7' tall but let's wait till this happens :-(

Amazing Grace aka Myriam (you would need two, because it takes time for the huge blooms to develop and open) - I don't see height measurement anywhere except at Heirloom Roses they say: 4-5'. I doubt the 5' but maybe in Texas :-))
In any case the fragrance of this rose is awesome and it needs sun to open those huge blooms because it has so many petals.

Comte de Chambord I have no idea how well it does in Texas how well it repeats but it certainly very fragrant and it is not a tall rose.

ceterum, do you have a photo of Jardins de Bagatelle? I'll look it up on HMF if you don't....

Did I mention Bolero, a perfect, always in bloom (provided you deadhead), very healthy floribunda with a fragrance to die for? Bolero will stay low enough under your bedroom window for sure.

After all, you cannot plant The Prince under your bedroom window because that would fry in 5 minute in full sun. What good that would do? :-((

Marie Pavie? A favorite of Mike Shoup of Antique Rose Emporium in Brenham, TX. Or its sport, Marie Daley.

I only have the climber, but Clotilde is beautifully fragrant and gorgeous, and she can stand the heat or shade here. She'd be my pick in a heartbeat (unless you can't stand any balling. She blooms again so fast, I never mind).

Ceterum, you photograph very well...if you didn't I wouldn't ask for photos :) I love both suggestions but will go with Bolero; Marie Pavie (thanks mkrkmr!) and Clotilde Soupert (thanks meredith!)

I just need to research the three above for their maximum height and then arrange them accordingly.

you can "peg" Mme. Isaac Pereire and that would keep her under the window. I have one and the scent is amazing. One of my all-time favorites.

One other thing to consider for a south facing area in a hot climate is that some colors will brown quickly. I dunno about how any of the above recs 'blow' but that would also be something to consider.

For me, the hardest part about making a suggestion for your spot is the heat it will get on a Southern wall in Texas... o_O HOTT!

I love Sharifa Ashma for its wonderful fragrance but I would not plant it it full day sun; it needs afternoon shade, IMHO, in a hot climate.
