Now I need help with window treatment for master bedroom
I really need to figure out what to do with the window treatment for our master bedroom. I am working with Pottery Barn McKenna Paisley-Blue shams and duvet cover with PB Belgium Flax Linen Diamond quilt in Midnight (a navy blue) on the bed. Awhile back, I thought I had a plan and purchased PB Emery panels in white (it's a soft white) to hang from rings and a textured woven roller shade in Natural from Country Curtains, but now I'm not sure I want that much at the window. Another problem is the off centerness of the window. The panels on the right would partially be behind the armoire. Also, I cannot use only the roller shade from Country Curtains because it is not quite as wide as the overall window with casing. That's why I had originally planned to use the panels. I think I'm getting ahead of myself. Here are some pictures.

So................what I'm trying to figure out is - are the roller shade and panels too much for the window or would just a textured shade be enough? If I do just a textured shade, I would start all over and order (from some place like Smith & Noble) a custom shade to fit the window properly. Any other ideas?????? Thanks for your help!!!!!!!!!!!

6 years agoI have the same woven roller shades in a darker color here in my office for sun control, and I have panels with them. I wouldn't personally want just the roller shade, although I love it; to me it would look unfinished with just the shade.

6 years agoIf I did only a textured shade, I don't think I'd do a roller shade. I'd probably do something like a woven flat fold shade, finished at the top. But, I do like the roller shade from Country Curtains. It does block some light, unlike some of the woven materials I've looked at on the Smith & Noble site.

Comments (20)West Elm curtains arrived and they are perfect!!!!!!!!!! Totally transformed our room; we are so pleased :) Thank you all so much for your help and encouraging me not to settle. (and I fully admit I do not have good decorating taste, so if you have any suggestions, I am open.) And I was really confused about what West Elm's color "zinc" was... if anyone is curious, it is a dark, metallic grey with a slight beige hue... I would rename it "Gunmetal." The material is great... Comments (5)I like my first idea best as far as use of space. I know people say not to put toilets on an outside wall. We had one in our last house in Iowa, but we had 2X6 construction. I don't know how high your window is, but I'm guessing the toilet would fit under there. The shower would be 5 feet long or shorter if you want a wider space to get to the toilet. (kind of tight the way I have drawn). You could do a 5 and half foot long shower and do an angled door at the left end to allow room between the shower and toilet. The vanity would be about 7 feet long, unless you do a 60 inch vanity with a linen cabinet at the door. I would reverse entry door swing if you do that.. The second top right could work and you would still have a small closet. The bottom left plan would require waterproofing your front window. Hopefully someone will give you other ideas. Comments (9)This is pretty much the furniture layout, due to doorway one wall with bathroom door same wall on other end. Closet door on another. I tried moving the furniture around including angling bed in corner. I once had the bed on the wall to left of bed, but that has one window as well & it looked more awkward there with no room for side tables. I would consider painting the furniture, eventually, but that is a big job with so much more else to be done. I can live with it for now. Comments (9)Thanks for your input Patricia. I don’t have other pictures of the bedroom at this time, but there is nothing in it anyway. It is one empty rectangular 11x15 ft box with the window you see and a door. I actually like the view. I like the urban look with the old brick building I can see in addition to the park below me and mountains in the background (to the left). I thought that for drapes I needed more wall space on either side of the window to hold enough fabric to cover the window properly. If I had all that fabric, it would cover some of the window, limiting the natural light I get....See Morebac717
6 years agoThanks, M3D. Yes, we would close the shade at night. We would most likely open it 3/4 of the way during the day. Having to raise it to open the window is just part of the deal, I guess, that would apply to whatever is at the window for privacy.
I like how you've installed your Country Curtains roller shade and your panels. Unfortunately, I don't have that option (to install the roller shade that far above the window) because I have 84" panels. The next longer length would have been too long and I didn't want to deal with hemming them. If I use the panels, one option is to hang them from rings like this
The panels do also have a back tab, so that's another option.

6 years agoIngrid, the armoire isn't touching the wall, but it does look like that from the camera angle. It's actually centered on the space between the side of the bed and the window wall. At one time, I did have the 2 armoires closer to each other. Perhaps I could go back to that arrangement.
