Anita, I was shying away from this, as it is a 3 day event, and I live only 1 1/2 hrs from Sacramento, and so would not be staying over, and didn't want to pay for 3 days when I would only be attending one. However, I looked at the web site, and now I am happy! The Friday evening reception and the Sat evening dinner have SEPARATE fees from the all day symposium on Sat, and Sunday is free. So, I think I will just attend the Sat day long symposium, as I can just pay for that part by itself. This is such a smart way to do this, and I hope other rose events copy your ideas - I have seen complaints for years about other events (which shall remain nameless) insisting that everyone pay an all-inclusive fee. Thanks for making this so easy!

I am certainly marking my calender. This will be a wonderful event that Michael and I will not miss. About accomodations: We always stay at the Vagabond Old Town(J and 3rd street). It is reasonable. It is a staight shot from there to the cemetery and you can walk into Old Town from there, which we've done many times. We're so looking forward to October.

We tried to make it worthwhile for somebody to come from a distance, which is why we set up a Friday evening and Sunday morning program (I'll be leading a tour), but to make it possible for it to be a one-day event as well. Pamela and Paula, the event wouldn't be complete without you, and Michael too.

Many of our roses repeat-bloom and the fall flush is usually pretty glorious. There will be some new information and even a chance to buy a rose or two that were thought to be lost, and which Fred Boutin has now found and identified. It should be a lot of fun.

For people who want to stay longer and see more roses afield, we can help you arrange a trip to some of the Gold Country sites or to Sonoma County, where there are such wonders as the Santa Rose Rural Cemetery, Quarryhill Botanic Gardens which its Asian species roses, and the Luther Burbank garden (not great for roses but interesting to visit nonetheless).

Hope that some of you non-Californians decide to make a fall trip to visit us.

Speaking strictly for myself, and as much as I love the wonderful spring show in that garden, I think there's something special, and particularly rich about the garden in Fall.

I saw it for the first time in mid November, and I swear, that was life-changing.

Bumping this up. Discount for early registration until Aug 10. We really hope to share some new information, look at some great roses, and have a good time with other rose nuts. Should be worth the trip.

Yes, we will have roses for sale - not as many as at Open Garden, but we saved some special ones and will have some others that we rarely offer.

Wow! Good timing, since my RI blooming season will be totally over (and BTW this year is my 3rd or "leap" year for my antique climbers bought mail order from the west coast and they are big buds now, will open by next week - to give you an idea of the bloomtime difference between east coast seaside and west coast bay area) so I can take off and leave my garden alone until winter mulch time which is November.

I can learn something at the talks. Plus, I get to meet some of you west coast rose lovers of internet fame. But actually (I confide) this gives me a chance to put my new minivan to the test, cross-country driving.

I'm already strategizing a return trip along I-40, further south, in order to not freeze any pots (must be hardy to zone 6) that I impulse-purchase in Sacramento. Tie me to the mast! Stop up my ears with wax! Carol's Odd Odyssey !

I'm going to sign up soon. I'm hoping that my grand daughter isn't arriving late. She's due September 27th. I must be present in Salem Oregon for the event.

Paula, if Tom comes, have him bring his bike. The Sacramento American River Parkway has 30+ miles of trail, and there is a great ride south on the River Road too, and nice riding around the city. My husband might be able to ride with him, or at least to help him plan some routes. Quite flat, too, which I consider a great bonus.

Anita - I ordered tickets for the "day long symposium" on Oct 13th. However, I'm sure it is just me being stupid, but I cannot find where it says on the Cemetery web site WHAT TIMES the symposium starts and ends anywhere. Do you know? I will not be attending the dinner the night before, as just driving up that morning from San Rafael.

I just went to the web site to look at registration and all that comes up at Brown Paper Tickets is the reception.

Pam - I had the same problem, but there is actually a drop down menu at the Brown Paper Tickets site that also will show the symposium, and the dinner afterwards. Anita has told me that the symposium will start at 8AM and finish at 4:30. She said they have not put the exact times up on the web site yet, but are getting around to that.

For those of us who cannot attend, are there any plans to publish all or part of the proceedings? I bought the book form of the 9th International Heritage Rose Conference Proceedings in Charleston in 2001 for a very reasonable price. It has given me many hours of enjoyable reading.

Maybe if you did a survey to see if there might be enough interest to make the project viable?
