Comments (4)Mbauer, I second the suggestion by computeruser. Stihl has three different models of electric chainsaws, for different needs. MSE 140 C-BQ Electric Chain Saw for light duty. MSE 180 C-BQ Electric Chain Saw for medium duty. MSE 220 Electric Chain Saw for heavy duty. In my opinion, all Stihls are quality saws. I have been using a Stihl MS361 gas powered saw for several years and am very satisfied with it. I like it that Stihl dealers don't just hand you a box with a saw in it, but take the time to show how to safely use and maintain the saw. If I decide to get an electric powered saw for use in our closed garage over the winter, it will certainly be a Stihl. MM...See MoreGas/Oil Mix for Chain Saw
Comments (3)Per Mike Acres' website (Chainsaw Collectors Corner), the McCulloch TimberBear wanted 40:1. You should be more than adequately lubricated and protected at this ratio with a modern oil. Heck, you should be fine at 50:1 with a good oil, too, for what that's worth. The quality of two-stroke oils has increased so dramatically since the days of mixing straight 30wt motor oil in with the gas (at 16:1 or 32:1, no less), that it is no longer necessary to use these ultra-rich ratios to get the appropriate degree of protection. I now run full-synthetic Mobil Racing MX2T in all my two-stroke equipment (43:1, 6oz to 2 gallons), but was very pleased with the more practical and readily available Echo semi-synthetic stuff I ran for a number of years. You can buy the Echo semi-synthetic oil at most OPE dealers and I believe you can even get it at Home Depot, too. I believe that the Echo mix has fuel stabilizer in it, too, which is nice if you're not burning through your can of mixed gas every few days....See Moregetting oil to chain saw chain
Comments (1)I have found dirty pumps and filters to be my problems. Dirty due to sawdust getting into the bar oil tank while filling before cleaning or being careful. The PoulanÂs foam filters were easy to clean with the use of my Poulan manual. I could see the foam deteriorating if the saw is old enough. The saws with manual pumps and auto seems to work better because you can force oil through and prime the bar (when the pump is good and the filter is not too dirty). Some people will simply use a squirt can to add oil as needed or at least before good dia cut vs a bill on an old saw. One Logger told me he adds oils as if the oilier is not working period. Remember, some Craftsman are Poulan saws. Craftsman is only a brand vs a builder of a product. logger...See MoreMcCulloch chain-saw fuel-oil ratio
