Tree cut down - take free replacement tree?

My silver maple was cut down in my front yard - it was dwindling (chlorosis, branches/large limbs dropping, heaving driveway, in sewer pipes, etc.). My front yard is about 40'x40' and is absolutely empty now. It is rather sad. The maple stump still needs to be grinded out. My question is the city has ordered a redmond linden tree to replant near the street. Should I take the free tree? I can opt out, but would have to pay if I wanted it in the future.

I wanted to plant a few smaller trees, but the missing 50+ year old maple makes me sad and my house looks funny now. Do you think I should take the linden and just go with 1 other small tree/multi-stem bush like a serviceberry or redbud? Should I refuse the tree? Do lindens cause any heaving issues with driveways and problems for below ground pipes - maple was causing driveway heaving and some sewer pipe issues. Any responses greatly appreciated - the city needs response ASAP.
