wheel barrow wheel replacement

I bought a wheelbarrow but now after sitting a year in the sun, the tire or the stem leaks air..

Where can I find another wheel and how to match it?

The tire says 4.00 x 8 ,

is there a solid rubber version so I don't have to worry about this again?

For a few $$ you can just replace the inner tube. They have ones where the valve comes straight out and there are ones where the valve comes out straight, then turns a 90 degree angle.

Yes, there are solid wheels that the big box home centers carry, that cost like $35 but look like they would be nice.

I've got the opposite problem: my wheelbarrow tub is rusted out. I have an older wheelbarrow with a really nice 2 piece wheel that bolts together and uses zerk fittings. I have a 4ply tire that can be pumped up to 60 psi. I love the undercarraige on this baby - just wish I had a nice new steel tub for it.

You can buy solid wheels but they're expensive.

I just use an inner tube and then take a scap inner tube and cut it in half around it's sidewall circumference. Then I place the new inner tube in the cut one to give it some more protection. (ie 2 ply).

I store my wheelbarrow inside. I also paint the tub every other year and treat the oak handles with linseed oil.

I tried both and I find the rear-drive very awkward and very difficult while pivoting the mower to the other direction. With front-drive, all I do is raise the front and quickly turn the mower to the other direction. My target is to quickly and efficiently mow my lawn and not tinker with the clutch at all; who wants that? With rear-drive, I have to disengage every time when I need to turn directions ... making my expensive mower a push mower during the attempt and tremendously slowing my momentum ... and of course, I have to engage again to move forward. If you have the mower on fast while doing this, you will find yourself fighting the mower every time you want to start on the new direction. You are not controlling the mower, its controlling you. Think about it, being able to raise the front wheels will allow you to turn the mower on 2 wheels; that is turning on a dime. If you have 4 wheels, you are going to make several small movements to realign your mower to the new direction while stroking your clutch on every attempt. IÂm returning my rear-drive today for a front-wheel drive.

'Manuevering advantage to front wheel drive' No. There is no advantage except cost in a FWD mower, and you pay much more than the difference over a couple of years in downtime, parts and aggravation. I really don't get how people have that idea about the FWD being easier to maneuver than RWD. Approaching a turn-around, you let go of the bail, which disconnects the drive. At the same time you push down on the handle to raise the front wheels and you pivot. As the mower lands on the ground, you just squeeze the drive bail to drive off down the new row. It is actually the exact same procedure as with the FWD, except on the FWD you don't have to let go of the drive bail. And for this you would suffer with an inferior product plus pay to replace it before its time after you get tired of replacing belts, wheels and axles?

I see that a few times a summer. Usually the persons concern is that they have difficulty pulling the engine over or simply that the drive quit. The best you can do is to ensure that the lower guard is in place and the debris kept out. Also, these short belts have a lot to do and simply wear thin. 175436 is your belt#, it isn't one of the more common belts, but it can be ordered from Sears or any EHP dealer. It would be in your best interest to replace the belt with a new one and ensure that the drive pulley is clean before you put the belt on. You still want to pull the drive wheels and inspect those gears + lube the wheel studs and clutches. (Once a year :) **Tom - thanks for the reply. When I dug into it, I found the fan belt had jumped off the drive shaft ( blade spindle). I had a similar situation about a year ago, but I don't know much about plumbing, so I called a plumber. It seemed to me that this is the best option, but I was wrong. Hi, I guess I can give the inner tube a try first, I think the side of the stem got cut by the hole in the wheel, if that makes any sense.

So the question is can I just walk into home depot or Lowes and find the inner tube? I thought they only sell the complete product and not parts.

I bought an inner tube at Walmart back in the spring for around eight dollars. It had the Slime already added to the tube to make it "puncture proof". I've used the wheelbarrow quite a bit this summer and have had no tire problems.

I have a wheelbarrow tire that is at least 10 years old, sat outside all the time & was all cracked & wouldn't hold air for more than about 10 minutes. I put some Ultraseal from Gemplers in the tire & to my amazement it has held air ever since. They only sell it by the gallon for about $45 on sale. I bought it for my tractor tires that had many leaks from old age & thorns & used some as an ultimate test on the barrow tire. I'm convinced.

so I found a new inner tube at Lowes in the lawn mower parts area. $11 and it has slime in it to stop any future punctures. Now I am back in business!
