Troy Bilt Super Tomahawk Chipper Shredder
Comments (13)Bill: The fellow I bought it from doesn't have a screen, and in fact didn't realize it needed one. One of his complaints about the machine was that it didn't chop leaves very fine. Actually, he used it almost completely for chipping, so didn't really NEED a screen. From the pictures on e-bay, there's a slight difference in size and shape between the non-chute on the side and the older "straight down" model, but I don't have the dimensions on the older style and so can't be sure. Neither can I find a parts number for mine. I found an exploded diagram on-line, but it didn't show a screen. Apparently they were an option. Oh, well..., I'm haunting e-bay, as you suggest. I think that's where I'll find one, eventually. Actually, there's an offering from an e-bay store (somewhere up in the midwest) for two, right now, one very large, one very small openings. I was kind of hoping for an "in-between". Thanks, again for the help and the links! Tom Hiter...See MoreTroyBilt Super Tomahawk chipper-shredder - custom tow bar
Comments (19)Before you start knocking the original poster, you may ask what he had to buy and what he had laying around. It can make a big difference, and I would consider the cost of the things I had to buy I made my brother a picture frame, and it cost nothing. I had a piece of 8' 1X2 in the garage and I had the glue. If I look at the actual cost it was much more. The 1X2 cost about $7. A small bottle of glue cost about $4. I worked on it about 2 hours, and at $30/hr that is $60. So my free frame actually cost about $71. This is not expensive the equipment, the electricity and the building upkeep and taxes, which would and another 10 to $20....See MoreWet material baffle for Junior Tomahawk chipper/shredder
Comments (3)To make your own attachment, just measure off whatever shredding screen you already have. Shouldn't be hard to make up if you can weld. But wet material shredding is the downfall of just about every shredder I have tried. My Super Tomahawk (made before Troy Bilt bought out the company) came with a wet material screen that is simply some bars welded crosswise of the curved rails. Bars are about 3/8" or 1/2" in cross section. But I wasn't impressed with its performance, so I tossed all the screens, and tried a totally different arrangement: the hammers rotate between the fixed bars, rather than at right angles to them. Nothing, no matter how wet, can clog it. Of course the feed throat will clog if I try to cram too much stuff down, but I have a scheme in mind to address that issue. I think the screens are quite a bit wider on the super T. compared to the junior, but the same principle should work, unless your machine has a completely different design. I also increased the number of hammers so there wouldn't be such wide open gaps for stuff to fall through unshredded. Its one weakness is that long skinny stuff occastionally goes through unscathed. On a different note, since the engine was dead when I bought the machine, I put on a used 3 h.p. Baldor 220V motor that I've never been able to stall. I run that off a GFCI breaker I installed in my electrical panel, so it's not as unsafe as it might sound. The worst wet, stringy stuff you can imagine goes right through, including corn stalks (wet and very stringy), tomato vines, and everything else. It isn't so great as a leaf shredder, though, as the leaves aren't chopped as fine as I'd like. This post was edited by runswithscissors2010 on Sat, Oct 12, 13 at 2:08...See MoreOld Troy Bilt Tiller
Comments (14)I inherited an older Troy Bilt Tiller from my grandfather. It has a Kohler motor with these numbers on it: Model No. K161T Spec. No. 281181j Serial No. 7383024 Can someone help me identify it and tell me what it's worth? I have no idea if it runs...he always took good care of his stuff. I tilted it forward and some fluid spilled out but I have never tried to start it. Please help. I can't find a model #....See MoreCWC777
