I didn't really have a lot of choice for places that are not in full sun 10-12 hours a day and ended up putting the container in an area that is shaded in the morning and early afternoon with direct sun in the late afternoon. It's not ideal but after seeing what our recent 4 day heat wave did to my existing cucumbers, and seeing my experience poor wilted plants through almost all of last September, I think I need to try something different this year.

hey just plant them where you want. .. they will either thrive or they wont.. why waste time worrying about it all??? full sun is somewhere between 6 and 8 hours of direct sun ... and that is necessary on some plants.. to grow and perform properly ... e.g. a tomato will not grow a large number of fruit [whats that all about] ... w/o full sun ... will it grow green in the shade.. probably ... will it thrive or preform to its potential ?? .. doubtful .... ANYTHING LESS THAN FULL SUN IS SHADE ... PART SHADE ... PART THIS.. PART THAT ... it is confusing that there are multiple terms for everything other than full sun .. but they all mean the same thing... LESS THAN FULL SUN just understand that the tag means it will tolerate less than full sun ... if it end up too dark .. the plant.. over the years.. will become thin .. reaching for sun .. lean ... etc.. you will understand that 'something' is wrong ... basically.. its too dark ... and at that point you will shrug and say to yourself.. live and learn .. and then figure out how to move them ... good luck ken

There are plumbagos growing everywhere down here in south TX. I have one in full sun b/c that's practically all my yard is :(. However, the best one's I've seen growing get filtered sunlight. I bought one b/c I noticed a plumbago that bloomed profusely from May all the way to October last year and thought they were gorgeous. I do not know about over wintering. The ones I've seen in the ground do really well. Good luck!

Your glutinosa (and other Chilean varieties) are rated more tender than my plants that are hybrids or purely Tasmanian/Australian (intermedia, lucida, etc.) Most literature says to protect them from strong winds, but I get east winds here and only notice occasional tiny branchlet breakage, no individual leaf damage. Leaves turned brown by low temps fall off in spring, are replaced readily by May. If your two proposed locations are about equally cold in the winter, go with the mid-morning...late afternoon one with wind exposure, that is where mine are. You may want to mulch and cover up your plant if it is very small for the first winter if temps go below 15. I put a sprinkler under my eucryphias every two weeks or so during hot summer stretches.
