yes it does according to my french speaking mother: pis en lit. (pee in bed) I'm not kidding. She asked me why I grew it. She thought it was a diuretic...or maybe she thought it smelled bad.

It seeds very easily....VERY easily, some people call it a pest, but I love it!
Just sprinkle the seeds....or better yet find someone that has some.

Tanacetum parthenium is the name I know them by. They're a chrysanthemum so you can google "chrysanthemum feverfew" and you'll see various names. I've seen them on member lists. They used to grow in one of my gardens - they'd hopped over from the neighbors'. They grew very easily and weren't really invasive. Mine were about 2 1/2-3' tall with chrysanthemum type foliage. Mine grew in full sun but I'm guessing they can handle some lesser light. Very old fashioned and pretty. Maureen

Oh yes, they reseed with glee. But they are also quite beautiful. Make certain you REALLY like them because they will spread. In my view that is a good thing and like this plant, but its not for everyone. Deadheading would be a must... but some reseeding make certain you have this plant for next year as its short lived.

The leaves/flowers in sachets make good moth and insect repellents.

Why are Tanacetum species called chrysanthemum? They are not mums nor that close. They look similar but Tansy, Painted Daisy and feverfew are not the same as mums. I think its confusing to call them that.

A very nice accent plant. For me it's short lived even if deadheaded but reseeding will provide new plants.

I love this little volunteer plant - have no idea where mine originally came from. Makes a great filler in the garden; good in bouquets, too, instead of baby's breath. It does self seed and spread with abandon, but I've always found it easy to pull up where it's not wanted. (kind of like my Johnny Jump-ups and forget-me-nots.)

Don't think I've ever noticed feverfew packs in the seed racks or as seedlings in garden centers - perhaps they're to be found with the herbs?

And therein lies the danger of common names vs botanical name.
Matricaria is a cammomile often called feverfew....as is the tanacetum.
In my opinion the camomile smells worse than the tanacetum! LOL!

I have lots of experience with this plant, lol. But I agree entirely with duluthinbloom. Id call this plant invasive if it wernt so easy to pull up. I didnt originally plant them, they just came up one year, probably from a dropped seed. They reseed like crazy over here, so I end up pulling a good bucketfull up each spring. Its amazing to me that people actually buy this plant, lol. I started out with just the single ones, then I started getting a bunch of mutated double ones. There really neat; I make sure to save the double ones. Heres a pic.

I've always known it as matricaria, although I call it feverfew. I have seen it referred to as tanacetum also. It does have a rather interesting smell :)

It holds a special place in my heart....it was the first seed sent to me from this site...years and years ago now, from a poster in Nova Scotia.

It will self seed for you. It pops up in odd places for me.
