what does FINREP mean? and another question...

My cabinets arrived yesterday. Packing list states there are "2 -FINREP-3/4 US24". Wondering what that is. I assume the toe kicks are the FINTK.

Also, DH insisted they come in the basement door (older and not yet replaced until the kitchen is all done). The corner cabinet did not fit. DH said lets go in the front door (he repeatedly said not the new kitchen door). Owner/delivery guy didn't listen and said that the kitchen door was the best and it would be ok. He had our carpenter take it off the hinges and he helped while DH unloaded other boxes. Next thing we hear a crash, there goes the new door down. DH said "@#$%&*" and the owner/delivery guy said "its ok, it didn't break the window". Well we go to put the door back on and there is scratches and nice size ding in the new white steel door. The carpenter told us the owner/delivery guy set it where he did and the wind got it. DH asks the owner/delivery guy who will take care of the door? Owner/delivery says "Not us but we'll be back next week to measure for your counter". I said "I'm not getting them from the place you recommended I'm getting them from XYZ. Owner/delivery guy looks mad and says "Well you went cheap, they are cheap and I wouldn't send anyone there." I went to XYZ because I got lots of good recommendations actually but I said nothing and he left. DH wants me to deduct the cost of the door from the final bill. Can I do this?

Seems to me if the delivery folks had YOUR carpenter take the door down, then the carpenter is responsible. The delivery people should only be held responsible for the door if they took it down and secured it. Sorry.

It was the delivery/owner who put the door where it was and then it fell. The carpenter only took it off the hinges and the delivery/owner took it from him and put it against the house and it fell. I think DH wouldn't be sooo mad if the guy had apologized and then not been so rude about the place we were buying our granite from. Just seemed unprofessional to us and we believe he was mad because he saw $$ sign fly out because he lost a kick back from the place he does recommend.

Okay. Ruffled sock pattern. This is for the ruffle. The line in the pattern says: K1. (yfwd) twice. *K5, slip 2nd, 3rd, 4th, and 5th sts over first st, (yfwd) twice. Question One: *YFWD(Yarn Forward) also means YO(Yarn Over). So if you havn't done that before it does mean to wrap the yarn around the needle twice. Question Two: K5. Slip 2nd, 3rd, 4th, and 5th sts over first st. WHAT IN THE HECK DOES THAT MEAN? I have done a slip, knit, then pass the slipped stitched over the last knit and off right hand needle before, but nothing like this. What needle am I slipping these stitches from, and am I slipping them across to another needle or am I dropping them off? *This is like the slip passover BUT you are going to do 4 in a row. If you want get a marker to show where the first stitch (of the K5). I like a small scrap of a different color. Someone once told me "Don't think about what it's telling you to do, just do what it says." So K5, take S(titch)2 slip over S1, S3 slip over S1, S4 over S1, S5 over S1. Question 3: Pick up and knit stitches along the side of the heel flap. I am assuming that I insert a single DPN (as a right needle) in the edge of the flap, yarn over, and draw the yarn through to stay on the right needle even though there is no left needle involved. Is this correct? *There is a great sock demo that shows this every well. I think I have the link done right (http://www.royea.net/sockdemo1.html). Page 3 is picking up the gusset. Hi dana gardener - I am wondering, what do you want to do? Do you really want to go or do you feel that it is an obligation? Even if it is an obligation it doesn't matter as long as you strongly desire to be there for someone you Love and want to support and share in the person's special day. This is what counts. However, if you cannot afford this trip with all the expenses involved, even if you want to be there, then I would express that in a note to the Bride with a gift that you can afford. No one should feel "forced" to attend when it will be so costly to do so. You may feel bad for not going if you truly desire to share in this Blessed event but you should also feel free and not guilty if you decide not to go because of the financial, emotional, etc. stress that it will cause you. No matter what decision you make it is your right to do so whether you go or not.

It could mean "Mother-Daughter"....some municipalities allow a home to be a two family dwelling in terms of separate living quarters only if it is occupied by family members...in other words...it is often (but not always) restricted from being rented out .....it is designed to allow extended family members to live in the same dwellingÂwith privacy. Most M-DÂs have the lion's share of the house as one unitÂand a much smaller portion as the second unitÂ...either as a small studio apartment or a one bedroomÂand may or may not have a separate entrance. As these homes appear to be single family, my bet is on the mother/daughter configuration...they are very popular in NY and NJ.

I think you can go either way and it will look fine. Will you need filler b/w the wall and the stacked Bev Centers? If you're concerned about the "unbalanced" look of the finished panel on only one side of the refrigerator alcove, I think the filler will take care of that look. However, if you are trying to maximize counter space, remember that each wall will take 4" to 5" away from the counter (and cabinet storage); whereas finished panels only take about 3/4". So, if you need the extra counter or cabinet space, I'd go with the finished panels. If you have plenty of counter and cabinet space, then go with what you like best. I do like Sarschlos' idea, but it only gives you a very shallow Message Center. If you want a Message Center, there are several options: * Sarschlos' idea (alcove on kitchen side) OR * an alcove on both sides (one facing the kitchen, one facing the Nook) OR * instead of the walls and alcove(s), put a finished panel on the kitchen side and then put in a shallow cabinet turned side ways on the Nook side. It could be a 12" deep upper and lower w/a counter b/w (my preference) OR a 12" deep pantry-style cabinet with doors on the upper & lower to store charging phones, etc. I have to agree with others. Unless there's a compelling reason for the staked Beverage Centers (maybe you already have them?), I would look into either the wider all fridge & all freezer or purchase an additional 24" refrigerator to fit in the space you have for the Bev Centers...but it should probably be the same "style" as the larger one, if possible.

OK....that's a different story. If the delivery guy secured the door, and then they knocked it over and damaged it, I think they should be responsible for a new one.

Thanks, that what we think especially after DH repeatedly said "do not use that door" We tried the side door and that didn't work and DH said "lets use the front door, the kitchen doors are new and I don't want them dinged up" but cabinet guy said "no, it will be ok" then he put the door where it ended up dropping. DH is still fuming.

My guess on the FINREP (being a KD)...is:
Finished Right End Panel: 3/4" thick; 24" deep cabinet (US measurements???)

Corner base cabinets, especially diagonal corner bases often have difficulty fitting through some doors. When we're out doing field measurements, we'll look at their doors to see if it will fit.

Sounds like a difficult situation.

Sorry that you are having so much trouble with this guy. Any chance that you can have someone else install the counter tops?

I am guessing the "owner/delivery guy" is the one who sold you the cabinets and is installing the counter-top? You can deduct the cost of the door from what you pay him, BUT if he can put a lien on your house, then you will end up in small claims court. We ended up firing our contractor before the basement was finished, but our lawyer said to just pay him anyway - cheaper than going to court. (Lawyer is my FIL, so I trust him!)

So you might be better off just hiring someone else to finish the job and pay for a replacement door. I would replace the door just so you and DH don't have to look at the dings every day and re-live the hassle every time you see it. That can get old.

colorcrazy...we are done with "owner/delivery guy". He only sold and delivered cabinets. He "suggested" a granite yard and its not the one I am going with so he is upset. We paid him 50% on order of the cabinets only and we now owe him the other 50% after we open/install on our own to be sure they are ok. The cabinets are 90% installed and no issues so far. Only issue is the $298.00 storm door. DH would likley prefer small claims decide who is as fault no matter the cost. DH is THAT stubborn! LOL... :)
