has anyone tried flame acanthus?

Elizabeth Lawrence mentions Anisacanthus in her wonderful book A Southern Garden as a red-blooming shrub hardy to Z7 that attracts hummingbirds like nobody's business, blooming from midsummer through fall in a rich red. I have found this shrub listed on Dave's Garden, but nobody I write to has heard of or grown it anywhere around the Washington DC area where I live. Has anybody in THIS worthy and knowledgeable crew grown Flame Acanthus -- and does it stack up to Miz Lawrence's accolades? And might you have some cuttings available for trade come Spring?

Many thanks from this frozen gardener who could USE some thoughts of red blossoms in the heat...

Lynn
