After 38 months we're IN....
Comments (20)Thanks so much everyone for the welcome back. It does look like there's a lot of people moving in right now. Congratulations to all of you. I cannot wait to have the house ready enough for pics. Right now I'm on dial-up so trying to post pics would be a nightmare. Seems Verizon now cannot get our old DSL service transferred to this house for another 10 days! Apparently their computer needs to "run it's program" which so far is into it's second month. Maybe I should go to their office and dump a cup of Starbucks on their computer to speed it up! But I'm SO GLAD to be posting again and just oh so thankful we're IN! Allison, I sure hope 2 years from now we're out there enjoying that porch. The weather here has been almost 90* and very humid (rained yesterday). But the evenings cool off and after unpacking boxes all day it's really nice to go out there even if we are sitting on beach chairs (we gave all our patio furniture to our son)!!! twitchy, I don't watch Paula Dean so I don't know what her refrigerator looks like. Our hardware is coming from the Roseland Ice Box company and it takes 4 "moons" to get them. Wouldn't think some tiny latches would take that long...crazy! I've put a link at the very bottom of this post. It isn't exactly what our's will look like but close. The hinges are the same but I'm choosing different latches. amyks, Yea, the RV campground was interesting to say the least. We had bear, coyote, bobcat and deer while we were there. I know there's cougar in the area but we didn't see one. There's 5 bears that would take turns every night raiding the trash cans. That campground is only 1/2 mile from my home and so we have them here too (seen tracks). I told DH we have to make sure our trash is secured. I don't want them thinking we're a supermarket. A friend lost one of her dogs not long ago from a bear and I sure don't want my "babies" (both g-kids and dogs) to come up on one. lorraineal, You're probably the smart one to get it a bit more finished than we did. You have to be getting up pretty darn early to brave SD's morning traffic to get the house open for your subs. Although I want our subs to get this done so we can get on with making this house into a home, I'd give anything right now to just sleep late one morning (like today!) :) Here is a link that might be useful: Roseland Ice box company hinges...See MoreElectrolux kitchen 6 month report
Comments (1)Great info! Our reno is a couple of months away and I'm still waffling on appliances. My first choices didn't quite fit, so I thought I would go with the GE Monogram. You are now the 2nd or 3rd person to rave about Electrolux, so they have jumped to the top of the list. I'll be checking out the single wall oven with micro combo. Thanks:-)...See Moreupdate after owning samsung 448 for 2 months
Comments (19)I think it was the Samsung WF 328 aaw - it had a heater but not steam. I gave all the paperwork back to the delivery/haul away guys today so I'd have to look it up to be sure. Today I've done an LG "Speed Wash" that took 29 mins. vs Samsung "Quick Wash" that took 1:02 with default ag* or switch off the ag* and get a 38 min "Quick Wash" Now I'm doing an LG Sanitary cycle with prewash, water plus and extra rinse with an estimated time of a little over 2 hours vs the Samsung Sanitary cycle that I think included a prewash and took 2:56 w/ ag* or 2:50 w/o ag* I was never convinced about the LG "roller balls" and thought they probably only added a rattle noise but the large fins and the roller balls do seem to be turning the laundry better than the almost smooth Samsung drum. My old LG tangled clothes in the washer like PJ's or long sleeved knit shirts but what is interesting is that even though the Samsung washer did not tangle clothes, the clothes came out of the dryer very wrinkled - no matter what washer cycle I used. I was able to wash most of my family's clothes and not need ironing with the LG washer. I still have my original LG dryer. I like that I can fine tune all the cycles on the LG - like change the water temps, speed up or slow down the spin, turn all cycles (except Sanitary) into a "Quick Cycle" More later......See MoreMore tile coming loose - 18 months after install
Comments (28)I just wanted to make sure we had covered every possible reason *besides* installation, so installer can't say it was structural, shrinkage as wood dried out, etc. - everything he was trying to say last year. We are always telling DD no to run in the house b/c it shakes the whole floor (and she's only 40 lb!) so was wondering if we have too much deflection. I think installer should have known that if we do (or at least figured it based on joist size/spacing), but he'd just say he put down what I asked him to - incl. the 1/4" Hardibacker that I bought so he wouldn't have to haul it here in his van (since I was buying so much stuff from HD I rented a truck to get it all home - Trex and stuff that wouldn't fit in my SUV). Even that, I asked if he wanted to put 1/4" under the Nuheat and 1/2" everywhere else (mainly to try to make up the diff. in height with 1 extra coat of thinset plus the 1/8" mat). He said no, he could level it out - NOT! My floor slopes from end of mat to edge of carpet 18" or so away. Didn't notice it with shoes on, by the time I moved in and floors were clean enough for socks it was too late to have him pull it up (ruin mat?) and redo the whole 13ft edge. Of course that's the area of the kitchen that hasn't come loose yet....See Moreburra_maluca
