That's great! Some of us were talking about you last week - wondering if you were in! We did the same thing with our porch. Still are after almost two years, but not right now in this heat. Congrats! I'm so excited for you! :)

It sounds like my place might be a bit more finished than yours, but you beat me to the move-in! We're waiting for the majority of the indoor trades to be out for good before we move. I'm shooting for the end of the month/beginning of September. I'll be thinking about you enjoying that cuppa joe on your own back porch while I'm driving cross town in the morning to get the house opened up for the workers.

Oh Kats, I'm *SO* happy for you!!! I've been thinking of you and wondering how it was going for you. It's been such a long journey for you -- it'll be so nice to just be able to sit on your porches & stare at those fabulous views! I can't wait to see your photos! CONGRATS!!!!

I cannot wait to have the house ready enough for pics. Right now I'm on dial-up so trying to post pics would be a nightmare. Seems Verizon now cannot get our old DSL service transferred to this house for another 10 days! Apparently their computer needs to "run it's program" which so far is into it's second month. Maybe I should go to their office and dump a cup of Starbucks on their computer to speed it up! But I'm SO GLAD to be posting again and just oh so thankful we're IN!

Allison, I sure hope 2 years from now we're out there enjoying that porch. The weather here has been almost 90* and very humid (rained yesterday). But the evenings cool off and after unpacking boxes all day it's really nice to go out there even if we are sitting on beach chairs (we gave all our patio furniture to our son)!!!

I don't watch Paula Dean so I don't know what her refrigerator looks like. Our hardware is coming from the Roseland Ice Box company and it takes 4 "moons" to get them. Wouldn't think some tiny latches would take that long...crazy! I've put a link at the very bottom of this post. It isn't exactly what our's will look like but close. The hinges are the same but I'm choosing different latches.

Yea, the RV campground was interesting to say the least. We had bear, coyote, bobcat and deer while we were there. I know there's cougar in the area but we didn't see one. There's 5 bears that would take turns every night raiding the trash cans. That campground is only 1/2 mile from my home and so we have them here too (seen tracks). I told DH we have to make sure our trash is secured. I don't want them thinking we're a supermarket. A friend lost one of her dogs not long ago from a bear and I sure don't want my "babies" (both g-kids and dogs) to come up on one.

You're probably the smart one to get it a bit more finished than we did. You have to be getting up pretty darn early to brave SD's morning traffic to get the house open for your subs. Although I want our subs to get this done so we can get on with making this house into a home, I'd give anything right now to just sleep late one morning (like today!) :)

Wow, Kats, I'm so so happy for you! Are you pleased with everything? Yes - pics!

We hope to be in by the 30th of this month with a ton of stuff left to be done by the GC. I hope we can make it because we have to vacate our lease back house on the 31st and our construction loan is due. My nerves are shot!

Can you tell me how you worked it our with your GC on finishing things? Did you hold back funds? I'm very concerned we are going to get into the house and the GC is going to disappear. I don't think he's made any money on our house and I'm worried he's just going to give up.

How is your house coming. Think you'll be there in another week or so?
As far as our GC and final payment.....no he's not been paid in full and he didn't make much money on our house either. One of his crew is here most days and until everything is done then he's not being paid. We've still got to do our "punch" with him. All the things he's been working on since we moved in are the "in your face" problems.

So after two weeks of having only one sub show up each day, minimal work completed in that time and GC on yet another trip to Texas... DH decided yesterday to take it on himself to "get her done".
Yesterday, DH began patch work and touchup painting. And, he's called back the roofer to repair the tile GC's guys stepped on and cracked (roofer is here this morning). DH worked on our woodstove that isn't connected yet (pipe is to short). And, moved the scaffolding that's still in my livingroom at least to the side of the stairs so we can walk into the room. Today he's meeting with the electrician to find out why some of our inside outlets are acting rather "ghostly" and why the back porch outlets are all on "vacation". Hubby has also told GC not to bother building my pantry shelving promising me that he'll hire someone else to actually "do it".
I'm just not sure what DH is going to do about the plumber though. That guy's a real winner. After trying for weeks to get him back here to finish installing 2 of our sinks, he shows up 10 days ago with a cane and tells me he can't work because he's recuperating from a recreational "knee injury". Now we find out that his idea of recuperating is boating out at the Colorado River. Getting these sinks finished will take an act of GOD.
So Kelly, I don't know if this will work for you or not but DH's plan now is to reduce the final pay by the amount of incompleted items and get GC out of our hair. He'll do what he can himself and hire out the rest.

Sorry to hear it's turned out that way. I fear the same thing is going to happen to us. I don't think our GC will disappear but just slow down to the point that DH will kick him out of the house!

My concern is that the things we will have left to do like landscaping and installing a privacy fence were under bid by my GC and it will cost us more money to have someone else take care of it.

I guess time will tell . . .
