Help - I think we made a mistake!

Last June we landscaped 75% of the outline of our newly build home. We planted some 28 plants. Looked great! Here was our mistake - we did not give the new plant roots 'a bad hair day' as were were supposed to prior to planting them in the ground. So far we have lost 3 Japanese hollies, an oak leaf hydrangea and 1 hicks yew. The other 2 hicks yews are 40-50% and the rest of the plants are all doing moderately well. My question is this - should I dig up any of the remaining plants to break up the roots more, or hope they grow out on their own? We have some cherry laurels that have plenty of new growth, but also about 10-15% brown leaves. Sames goes for the wine and rose wegilia. Any advice would be appreciated. I am sick to my stomach over all the work we did and money we spent only to have a sub par landscaping situation because of a very stupid rookie mistake. Live and learn I guess.

Thanks in Advance,

Chris.
