A few mosquito dunks in that size pond will have minimal impact and specially so for moving water. If you look on the package you'll see the recommended dose. You'd probably need a dozen or two to get the concentration of the larvicide up there. Are you having a mosquito problem? If not I wouldn't bother with the dunks and if you are having a problem you'd probably need many, many more to handle the mosquito issue in that manner. The rule of thumb is 1 dunk per 100 square feet of surface water but that's for non-moving water. Your algae issue appears to be mostly suspended algae (as opposed to the string type). The higher capacity UV should help but you may also wish to think about adding plants that might remove the nutrients that are stimulating the algae growth. ---David

We have a lot of dead Dragonfly nymphs, but there are 3 distinct species in the bog and they may be preying on each other? The way the bacillus works is by destroying thr gut lining of many nymph species of insects (not just mosquitos and black flies), and the study linked mentions smaller Dragonfly nymph size. I wish they did a much larger study because just one genus/species test leaves me a bit nervous still. lsst - what kind (or colored) Dragonflies do you have?

Wilderness - when you say pets, what kind of pets are we discussing? Apparently Permethrin is very toxic to cats and fish, though not so much to other mammals. From Wiki: Permethrin acts as neurotoxin, slowing down the nervous system through binding to sodium channels. This action is negatively correlated to temperature, thus generally showing more acute effects on cold-blooded animals (insects, fish, frogs...) over warm-blooded animals (mammals and birds): * Permethrin is extremely toxic to fish and aquatic life in general, so extreme care must be taken when using products containing permethrin near water sources. * Permethrin is also highly toxic to cats and flea and tick repellent formulas intended and labeled for (the more resistant) dogs may contain permethrin and cause feline permethrin toxicosis in cats.[7] * Very high doses will have tangible neurotoxic effects on mammals and birds, including human beings. The doughnut shaped Bt called "MosquitoDunks" is good for 30 days like you indicated. I believe the Bt stays near the surface of the soil so, every 30 days should be enough. However, I apply every 2 weeks just in case. "MosquitoDunks" instructions claim that 1/4 of a dunk will treat 1-5 sq. ft. For instance, my 3 gallon, 10 inch pots have about 78 sq. inches at the surface. So, 1/4 of a dunk should treat nearly 10 pots. Personally, I would use at least 1/3 or even 1/2 of a dunk for 10 pots. I feel safer using the stronger dosage. Using the 10 pot example again, I would dissolve that 1/3 of a dunk in about 2 gallons of water and try to roughly use equal amounts on each pot. You may use that same 1/3 dunk with 3-4 gallons of water as long as you use it on 1-5 sq. ft. and in equal amounts in each pot. I don't leave dissolved Bt unused very long. I like having the Bt in the pot for it's 30-day life span rather than sitting in a container. This stuff is pretty tame as for as toxicity, so don't get all bent about exacting measurments. Never heard of Bt harming plants regardless of dosage.
