Bacillus Thuringiensis (BT) aka Mosquito Dunks Questions

BT has been highly recommended here by Amaryllis growers to get rid of maggots of fungus gnats in the potting medium thus preventing plants specially seedlings from being attacked by these worms. So I got me some at my local WM...it's currently on clearance 1/2 off for $4. I wanted to get all of them...lol. Before I do that though, I have some questions:

1. I am not a scientist and don't even know what BT is but does this (used and unused) have an expiration? Eight dunks is a lot for me to use up...possibly a year.

2. I read that you can use broken portions of it and placed in water. How much of the dunk per gallon of water should I put?

3. Label says it would work for 30 days or longer. How often should I water my plants with this...once a month? every watering?

I would really appreciate all your answers to these questions...Thanks!
