Please tell me about 'Clementina Carbonieri?'

I've only seen one plant and that was years ago.

How do the roses from "Clementinea Carbonieri" compare to those of " Monsiur Tillier", in color and shape?

I'd love it if "C.C." were more cerise than pinky-orange.

-fragrance. how strong and what type?

I love how many subtle and marvelous scents there are within the Tea class. From the ripe raspberry scented "Duchess de Brabant" to the honeysuckle+mixed floral of "Etoille de Lyon" and myrrh-anise scent notes in "Mrs. B.R. Cant"

- appearance of foliage, interesting or rather plain?

-health. Does anyone who posts here grow "Clemontina Carbonieri" without spraying, or with organic methods?

Mature size? I'd like a Tea to fill a space of c. 8 feet in diameter, by c. 5-6 feet tall.

If you had a "Top 12 Tea roses" list, would "Clementina Carbonieri" be on it?

Lux -- Far fewer petals than Mons. Tillier.
And a warmer color tone.

But as to the rest of it, I cannot tell you, because three different plants from two different sources have refused to live here.
I know my conditions are difficult, but I've never found a cultivar so determined not to live here!

It's lovely, and I wish I could grow it, but I know when I should admit defeat.

I grew Monsieur Tillier and CC side by side and CC was a smaller, more petite rose. I don't recall any cerise tones in it at all and for me the fragrance was not very detectable. Unfortunately, even though they were both beautiful bushes, I had to give them up because the flowers fried after a few hours in the sun, even when it wasn't the height of summer. However, my microclimate is unusually hot and dry.

Lynn, Between you and your neighbor I know which one is going to go to heaven. Three acres of grass to keep green!?! That's an awful lot of water! I think a lot about water conservation, and I live in an area that gets a respectable amount of rain, even though summers are dry. I don't know about your situation and how much you can do: pots simply have to be watered, and I have my (socially mobile) ghetto every summer, much of it under the protection of our wisteria pergola, and most of the rest of the pots buried in the ground. Plants to give shade and act as windbreaks, as well as cool the air, help, and of course a heavy mulch and thick planting for everything in the ground. I love 'Clementina Carbonieri'! I have, oh, three or four plants of it scattered around, the babies tiny, and my one mature plant turning into a giant: after a slow start, it now grows and grows and grows. The flower color is wonderful, and once the plant gets some size on it and in favorable conditions it can produce quite large, shapely flowers: in one particularly good year I remember my mature plant had full, double blooms that looked like David Austin roses, only in fluorescent hues. Ours is incredibly useful in hot weather: it's built on the south side of the house and shades it in summer, while letting in the sun in the wintertime. This is where I pot plants or just sit and enjoy the cool. I remember when every southern home had its grape arbor with table and benches underneath.

I am really torn on this one. In the early season I love this plant. I love the blooms. They are gorgeous. HOWEVER, now it is is entirely covered in powdery mildew, a few blooms, but it doesn't look pretty. I havent sprayed for powdery mildew, but usually it is just BS that is the culprit here.. so I think that says it is pretty suseptable to PM. In conclusion: When it is good it is REAL good, but when it is BAD it can be pretty bad. I have waffled back and forth shovel pruning this one out. But I went to the time and expense to order it from Vintage and the 3 years in growing it... The jury is still out. Marleah

Ulp, thanks -- I'm just going to have to move Madame Lambard then. I do have another spot which will work, and it's not too late. I'm so glad I checked. I thought it might be a big one, but that's not what I was reading. You really saved me a lot of problems a year or two from now. Anyone have any ideas about Clementina Carbonieri? If it doesn't rain tonight or early tomorrow, I'll be planting in the morning. Campanula, Austins often do get bigger here in California, so I went with the larger end of the size ranges I found. If they grow a little larger yet, I'll still be okay. It isn't all of them that do this. I'm actually pleased that Cweathersby reported a larger size for Molyneaux. Two feet sounds too small, at least where these roses will be sited. Sherry, my Anna Olivier comes from a cutting from Jackie's plant, which is both huge and ancient, something like a hundred years old. I'm pretty sure it cannot be the Bermuda one. Rosefolly

Nice, and really unique. You will just have to keep your eyes open for something that will work with that. Take the measurements down for what will work, you may get lucky and find something. The mirrors got separated on those vanities for hanging separately or just got broken. If you can find something maybe a simple round mirror with a black frame would work hanging on the wall above it. Before you try and strip and refinish check out re-amalgamation of varnish finishes. Google term or go to YouTube. Hint, if you can use this technique do it with a light hand if you want to retain patina. Also, don't remove patina from the drawer handles, just remove and give them a good scrub with soap and water. Here is one of many videos...I've used what is called mineral spirits, it's called whatever the guy uses in England, same stuff. Just check out YouTube videos. https://youtu.be/F9SsSF1Qv_Q Maybe not even use steel wool as this guy recommends. First try a gentle approach with a white cotton cloth dipped in mineral spirits. The process basically disolves the varnish, removes some, then the varnish re-hardens/drys. It happens rather quickly too. That is if it's natural varnish that was used, which is more likely than not. Doing a test spot will quickly tell you if it is varnish rather than polyurethane, basically nothing much will happen to finish if poly.

They are about the same size blossom-perhaps 3". Mon.T was more floriferous but I really liked Clementina's more graceful blooms.
Neither survived through no fault of their own and I am wrestling whether to get one or both again. The salmon coloring is my favorite (CC wins this one for me) but I love the bigger blowsier blooms of say Franziska Kruger (yes I know not the same shades or even the same size plant).

In my coastal climate, Mons. Tillier is more strongly colored than this.
In a mature plant, blooms are quite large, and the bush is very floriferous.
Its weakness is hot, dry, desert conditions -- and we just had an entire huge flush fried by hot winds.

Just took some beautiful pictures of CC at the Heritage. Seems to be growing well.

In my garden CC is a slow-growing, beautiful, healthy plant that gets big in time. Sharp Tea scent. Neither CC nor MT (I'm assuming the latter is our 'Archduke Joseph') has cerise tints. MT/AJ has slightly darker flowers and great foliage, and gets huge; CC has good foliage, not so strikingly handsome as MT/AJ's, and sunset-colored blooms. CC's flowers are usually semi-double, but at times can become fully double, at which time they look a David Austin bloom gone fluorescent. These are both in my top ten.
