'Thomasville Old Gold' Please tell me about..

its' bloom habit and growth habit.

1. Is it as floriferous as a Tea class cultivar?

2. Does it have as long of a bloom season as a typical Tea?

In the S.F. Bay area Tea roses bloom from March through November, where H.T.s only bloom from May through October.

I do remember a somewhat slender 5' 7" ft tall rosebush, that could have been "Thomasville Old Gold" but it had the H.T. habit of producing few to no blooms on the lower fourth part of the plant, with less foliage than a Tea rose usually has.

3. Does that growth habit describe "Thomasville Old Gold"?

Vintage Gardens has moved it from H.T. section to the Tea class in their newest rose book. I'm glad to see the Tea class expanded, and would gladly learn the traits of this cultivar.

I had mine in a bad spot in my garden where it didn't grow or bloom. I put it in a big pot where it has been a good bloomer this summer and has put on some good growth. I think it's very pretty, and it's bs free. The colors are similar to Clementina Carbonieri to me but CC has much fuller blooms...prettier I guess, though TOG is really nice to look at too. Can't say how it grows but it blooms well in a pot.

The flowers are pretty but mine has suffered from the worst powdery mildew that I have ever seen for two years. It has been covered with PM when no other rose is affected. It gets one more summer to straighten up and then out it goes! Carol

I think (hope) doctors today have the mindset of sparing what organs they can. I've read/heard arguments on both sides of the story. Here's some info from the wall street journal health journal: Cutting Less More doctors are challenging the convention of removing the cervix during a hysterectomy. Here's why: * Pap smears have sharply reduced the incidence of cervical cancer. * Sparing the cervix reduces the risk of bladder damage. * Some doctors say it may improve sexual function. Some 600,000 hysterectomies are performed in the U.S. every year, making it the second-most common women's surgery after Caesarean section. It is done to remove cancers of the uterus or cervix, or more commonly to treat a painful condition called endometriosis or because of noncancerous uterine growths called fibroids. Prior to 1940, nearly all hysterectomies preserved the cervix because it was easier and safer given the lack of antibiotics and blood banks. But by the 1960s, removing the cervix, viewed as a cancer preventative at a time when Pap smears were still fairly new, became standard. Now the tide appears to be turning. In 2006, 9.7% of U.S. inpatient hysterectomies, which account for more than 90% of the procedures, preserved the cervix, compared with just 1.7% a decade earlier, according to federal data. ------- Just sharing that info, not saying they are right. jxbrown, fwiw, I bought a bunch of those to put on my oven racks. Yes, they do work...but they were a PAIN! I could no longer slide things on/off the shelf. I found them to be impractical...jmho!!! I don't care for mitts, either. Or the silicone pad. I just like the good old-fashioned terry cloth pot holder. I bought some newer quilted ones (not terry) that won't bend easily enough to grip the pan! LOL! I'm always on the search for terry cloth potholders. I have never grown that rose, but I was curious, so I looked it up on HMF. It is a tea. It always amazes me how much trouble people take to try and grow tea roses in zones which may not be warm enough. How long have you had yours? How big is it? Is it on its own roots? The last question may be the most important - if it is on its own roots, it can be killed by cold back to the ground, and still come back in the Spring. I'm curious about this one too. I bought a band this summer from Vintage, and it is doing very well in its' pot. No disease, and it has about 6 buds right now. One opened up and it is a simple bloom so far, very much like Linda's, but I thought it was very pretty.

I have high hopes for this one, but I don't think it is very common, as I haven't been able to find out much about it. It sure would be nice to know the sizing, etc. so I could guess at placement in the ground.

I am really torn on this one.

In the early season I love this plant. I love the blooms. They are gorgeous.

HOWEVER, now it is is entirely covered in powdery mildew, a few blooms, but it doesn't look pretty. I havent sprayed for powdery mildew, but usually it is just BS that is the culprit here.. so I think that says it is pretty suseptable to PM.

In conclusion: When it is good it is REAL good, but when it is BAD it can be pretty bad.

I have waffled back and forth shovel pruning this one out. But I went to the time and expense to order it from Vintage and the 3 years in growing it...

The jury is still out.

Thanks everyone, especially Berndoodle, I won't be ordering "T.O.G." because of the information you supplied, I love Tea roses for their growth habit, floriferousness and looong beautiful bloom season.
