Yup, agree with the art deco. And a nicer one--looks like the trim is actually inlaid wood and not a celluloid sticker (which helps if you refinish it!). Bakelite on the knobs perhaps? I wonder about the orientation of those but wouldn't want to turn them if they've "settled in".

I wouldn't be too hopeful of finding the maker, but maybe you'll get lucky.

Lol thank you!! It is absolutely inlaid which I have solutely loved about it Bakelite I never heard of so I'm glad to find a word I can research in my Journey. I took a knob off and it wasn't solid it was thin and Hollow but definitely original because the finish underneath is untouched. What do you mean when you say the orientation? Do you mean cuz the drawers are sideways and the doors are upright?

I was wondering about refinishing would that destroy it? I wouldn't mind giving it a light sand and a few coats of polyurethane this thing is in such Immaculate shape for being almost 100 years old

Yeah, that's what I meant about the orientation but it's possible it's meant to be that way too. It kind of looks right due to the height of the lower drawers.

Sanding these things is always tricky because the veneers go every direction and it's impossible to go along the grain.

If the finish is shellac, you might be able to "reamalgamate" it. It doesn't look too bad. How could someone throw that out? It's so nice!

Sometimes redoing the finish cuts the worth of a true antique. My DIL found that out when she took her antique in to a dealer. Since your vanity is in such good shape, I would clean it up and polish with a good wood cleaner. I had one like that when I was a teen but mine had four drawers. Loved it.

Ohhh I didn't even notice that the bottom compartments were doors, not drawers.

Those handles are definitely in the correct orientation for doors and drawers!

Nice, and really unique. You will just have to keep your eyes open for something that will work with that. Take the measurements down for what will work, you may get lucky and find something. The mirrors got separated on those vanities for hanging separately or just got broken. If you can find something maybe a simple round mirror with a black frame would work hanging on the wall above it.

Before you try and strip and refinish check out re-amalgamation of varnish finishes. Google term or go to YouTube. Hint, if you can use this technique do it with a light hand if you want to retain patina. Also, don't remove patina from the drawer handles, just remove and give them a good scrub with soap and water.

Maybe not even use steel wool as this guy recommends. First try a gentle approach with a white cotton cloth dipped in mineral spirits. The process basically disolves the varnish, removes some, then the varnish re-hardens/drys. It happens rather quickly too. That is if it's natural varnish that was used, which is more likely than not. Doing a test spot will quickly tell you if it is varnish rather than polyurethane, basically nothing much will happen to finish if poly.

Do NOT touch that withsand paper!! I would not do a thing to the finish...

Perhaps wipe it gently with mineral spirits which won't do a thing to dissolve a finish but will remove old wax and grease. Then I would wax it with a good carnauba paste wax. Be very careful rubbing with anything, if there is a loose corner of the inlay it could catch and damage it.

And I would remove thew ooden supports for the mirror. Save them and add back if yo do fine a mirror that will fit....but I would concentrate on finding a mirror that "goes".
