Cadence - what is your general geographic region? US South? West? I ask because even where the heat zone is the same, some roses do better or worse in areas of high or low humidity, etc. Then we can suggest some roses that will like your climate.

Does the area get at lest 6 to 8 hours of sun? That's the most important consideration. What kind of shape and size are you looking for, short and bushy or tall and narrow? Depending on your conditions and needs/wants you might want to look at some polyanthas for a more continuous bloom. Cecile Brunner might be a good one for you but it's pink. I have Zenaitta which is red and it blooms continuously for me. It's fairly healthy but will spot some.

I live in the Pacific Northwest. British Columbia. We have a mild rainy season during the winter months. Where I want to place it gets morning shade until around noon and sun the rest of the day. I'm thinking something about 5'x5'. The location for my rose would be on the north west corner of my house. Thanks so much for helping me.

Thanks for the info - you might want to look into hybrid musk roses. They will do fine with the amount of sun you have available, produce large clusters of small flowers, and some of them stay small enough. I found 'Grandmaster' - it is supposed to be on the smaller size, and is an apricot/buff color. You can look it and others up on Helpmefind.com/roses.

Here is a picture of one of my hybrid musks - it is the one in the left foreground. Ignore the fact that it is pink, and see if you like the looks of it otherwise.

If you would like something not too big (~3'), 'Marie Pavie' or her pink form, 'Marie Daly' are constantly blooming with petite little flowers that are sweetly scented. Very good resistance to disease. Just keep some scissors around to snip off the spent flowers.

Jacqueline, your roses are 'spectacular' ~ thanks very much for posting your pic. I especially love all those wonderful blooms on it. I would like my rose shrub to get about five feet tall or so. I'm looking for something with gold / deep orange or/red with orange tones in the blooms. Disease resistant.

Hoovb ~ As always, I welcome your help. I'm thinking 3' might be just a tad short though. The rose bush I select will serve as a back drop for my perennial garden.

So, am I correct in saying that hyrid musk is a 'type of rose' and there are many different names for them and they come in different colors? Yes, hybrid musk is a type of rose - they come in many colors. In the picture I posted, there are two roses. The small pink one in the left bottom corner is a pink hybrid musk, which blooms over & over all summer. The large lavender one on the right is a once blooming rambler.

Check out the hybrid musk called 'Grandmaster' on "helpmefind.com/rose"; - it might go better with the colors you have.

Buff Beauty is another hybrid musk that might fit your color scheme with its buff-apricot, very fluffy flowers. It's a spreading plant and would probably reach more than five feet, certainly sideways could be even more.

You might investigate some of the Austins which can be kept more to the proportions you envisage.

Francesca is a good substitute for Grandmaster - one of the Pemberton musks - and is pretty good on disease resistance.

Cadence - you might like Westerland, or it's sport, Autumn Sunset - a short climber but easily grown as a free standing shrub of 5x5.
Judith, if not Francesca, go to the source and consider Trier - dunno why this rose is not grown everywhere - lovely fragrance too.

Will Scarlet is a hybrid musk and Antique Rose Emporium has it. I love the hybrid musk roses. I have Felicia and Cornelia.

Soft yellow, blooms in clusters, smells nice, disease free and little if any pruning needed. I have mine in the same exposure you require and it's one of my favorites.
