The Vintage Difference - Marie Pavie
Comments (14)Pam, sports are really interesting to me, really fascinating. It's especially nice when there are sports of some of my favorite roses such as Marie Pavie/Daly, SdlM/SdSA, Gruss/Pink Gruss. Thanks for sharing Phillip Robinson's thoughts ... food for thought. Krista, the foliage seems the same to me on both "versions" of MP, which is to say both are large-sized leaves for a polyantha. Florence, I liked that third one too, with the bloom hanging below the pot and the old wood bench that my step father made for me. He's a great guy, I also have bird houses in the garden that he made. Hamp, I'll be monitoring the new MP over the summer. My first impressions of it are very, very good, and I'm happy I placed the order from Vintage. A little rose like this with all that fragance being produced deserves to live in my garden. Comments (20)Sherry, I don't have spider mites, so that is not why my Marie Daley looks bad. There is some blackspot, and also what I dub "Florida Crud". Lisa at Countryside roses told me to stay away from Marie Pavie if I was no-spray, as she blackspots and gets cruddy for her. I didn't ask about Marie Daley specifically, but I'm assuming because they are related that Marie is a problem here also. This is my second try, from a different vendor, so I personnaly do not feel that these two will look good for at least half the year here in Florida, with our particular strains of fungus. For someone who sprays chemicals, she probably stays clean. I won't spray chemicals. By the way, it is too hot down here to spray Daconil. It burns the roses, so I wouldn't use it at all if I were you, unless you want to defoliate the bush for some reason. If you have spider mites, you would be able to see them if you hold a sheet of white paper under the leaves and shake them. Sherry, don't feel you aren't a smart enough mother to your roses. I don't feel Marie Pavie can be grown no-spray here and look good for a prime location. However, if you're not ready to give up yet, that is fine. All I know is I've tried this rose over the past few years, and my tolerance level is not willing to put up with it. If mine were not in a pot, I wouldn't care if Michael ran over mine with a lawnmower. Judith, you should start your own worm bin. It's fun, and they become pets. Well. sort of....:) For the most user friendly and easiest way to do it, I would suggest investing in a unit like the Can O Worms. It can be done in Rubbermaid containers, but I don't think it would be as nice to do it that way, or as easy. Sandy...See MoreMarie Pavie
Comments (10)Randy, your Marie Pavie is really, really pretty! I love the flower form, the soft pink color and that it has a strong fragrance makes it even more desirable. Sigh, this seems to be another "must have" rose... Did you get the band from Vintage just this winter? If this is the case, it is incredible how many flowers and buds the rose is producing already. Thanks for posting the nice pictures!...See MoreIs Marie Pavie a poly-tea?
Comments (5)According to Vintage Gardens last catalogue it is classified as a polyantha & Gregg characterises it as perfect. I agree, I have grown 3 for the last 5 years trouble-free, always in bloom, right now 2 of them are covered with buds, the other one has kindly been pruned by my citified deer. They easily jump (or walk over my picket fence)but are not much of a nuisance. My soil is acid clay which I have amended with my compost & sundry mulches etc. The plants have a beautiful shape without much help from me.Very healthy here where blackspot is usually a problem. Hope my rambling is of some value. Jane...See Morejerijen
