I bought what I thought was Coulterville Red last year, not the case.... One of my new mystery roses.

Daun, show us what it looks like, if you can.

It should be easy to identify, because we know what things were propagated.

We don't have any Coulterville Red this year. It's not easy to propagate.

We do have many "onesie and twosie" roses that aren't in the catalog. Plan to come early - we let people into the sale at 930 promptly, and there were quite a few people in line last year.

I know that a few of the roses weren't correctly IDd that we sold last year. Our apologies - sometimes labels "walk," as our curator says. Everything we propagate is a fine rose for this area, but we'll try to help you identify it, or take it back if you want a replacement and still have it in a pot.

Old Town Novato is a wonderful rose. One of its few problems is that the bloom clusters are so full of buds that not all of the flowers can open! Fragrant, too.

Be sure to say "hi" to me. I tend to be very, very busy during the day but I really like to meet you face to face.

If any of you want to come on another, less busy day, just let me know and I'll plan to meet you there.

Anita thank you for the information on Coulterville Red. I guess I must keep waiting and hoping:) That sure is a little beauty.

I had to chuckle when you said there were quite a few people in line last year. Is that what you call that polite, smiling, orderly mob that hovered near the rose tables waiting for the sale to begin?:) Can you say seriously focused on a goal? I was at the back waiting to see just how determined those folks were about getting the roses they wanted and now I know. Those people were NOT messing around! Like I said all very polite though.

I have to look at the catalog again and see what I must have now. I had a couple of fatalities during our cold snap of 4-ish degrees in December which will open up valuable real estate in the front bed. Thanks again.

Kate, everyone laughed at me a couple of years ago, when I said that I had room to add some roses because "fortunately, a few things died."
Now, I know you won't laugh, because you understand!

Oh yes ma'am, I know exactly what you're saying. In fact at the end of fall last year I finally bit the bullet and gave away two or three that I was either underwhelmed with or were poor performers. So I actually have a little space to play with now. DH and I looked through your wonderful catalog this morning and narrowed it down to: Reve D'or, Secret Garden Musk Climber or Bakavu. Cliff told me about the latter a couple years ago and it really caught my attention.

Now all I have to do it get to the front of that rose line..,

Great read, Jeri. Beautiful catalog. I'm crushed that the cemetery is 3,000 miles away and my broom is in the shop. Rats!! I still like Pleasant Hill Cemetery...and others.

Sherry, DH took my "broom" down to the repair shop today, to have the heater fixed. (Water heater comes next.)

When I woo-woo off on my broom, I want to be warm, and have access to a shower.

Anita is being a little modest about "many people in line last year". There were something like 500 people there that day and nearly everyone shopped the rose sale! It was a glorious day, the garden was amazing and, of course, the Cemetery Volunteers (and Jeri!) make it all worthwhile. The plants were gorgeous. I helped sign them for the sale. Come with a big, empty car trunk and lots of news paper as well as a stuffed, full wallet! You will be glad you did!

Clay said there were a lot.

I know he intends to go out again this year and entertain the gathered multitudes, as he did last year.
This time, he will have Becket the Long-Haired Dalmatian with him, which should make for some giggles.

I'm excited.

But I'm also excited about the March 20 Old Rose seminar in Petaluma. That's NEXT WEEK! WOW!

And so, the spring frenzy begins.

That's what the ladies said that day, Jeri! It sure seemed like it, there were SO many people everywhere and the Cemetery held us all wonderfully! I hope the bloom is as spectacular this year as it was last. With all this rain and with the chill hours we've had, it should be amazing! For anyone within easy travel distance, this garden and this event is NOT to be missed! I only wish I could make it again this year!

We did indeed have over 500 people last year. The bus from the Shasta Rose Society helped, but we'd have had quite a crowd anyway. We had over 60 people waiting behind the tape for the rose sales. I played bouncer and wouldn't let anybody jump the line, but there wasn't much of that. People really were nice.

We will soon have a schedule of the day posted. We will be having activities in the Perennial Plant Club and Native Plant areas, as well as history tours. It will be hard to fit everything in. I'm going to lead the first tour again, but we are delaying it till 1015 so that people can do the rose sales and then take the tour (let me know if you think I should wait till 1030).

Less than six weeks to go!
