Jeri has made this catalog a work of art. Even if you can't come to Sacramento for the Open Garden, please take time to look at it and enjoy. In addition to the roses listed, we have some roses for the raffle, and at least thirty more varieties in quantities of one or two.

What a beauty of a catalog. I've been reveling in the stories and images - how to choose which ones to bid on! That little poly from Cliff Orent looks so wonderful.

If only I were starting a brand-new garden on an acre of ground. I'd so love to see some of these roses in their full glory...at my house!

Jeri, you did such a beautiful job. I have spent the last hour pondering this. I will be back. I am going back to look again. I love the name Tylor. I think that was the way it was spelt before some of the Tylers crossed the pond. We have also seen it as Tiler and Tilor.

It was in our plan for this spring, but getting the boat back in the water is still thousands of dollars away from completion.
I even had the schedules for Southwest...which is as well as their recent cancellation of flights would have been stressful.

Sometime, you could teach a day long course in how to make wonderful rose catalogs.

Each Open Garden is different, with a varying mix of friends, weather and blooms. We're moderately early in the bloom this year, so some of the banksiae and most teas should still be blooming, and the later flowers will be starting. Weather forecast is good - mid-seventies, partly cloudy, little chance of rain as of today, with no storms this week to knock things off supports or damage blooms.

We've made some changes, probably most are subtle - new supports, new sign, roses planted along the front fence, other roses added or deleted, a lot of progress controlling weeds. We're even fixing some of the tumbled-down brickwork. The roses are in better shape than ever, I think, although some have problems.

Last year was the last time Da Kernel was at our garden. We will miss him terribly. This year, other stalwart friends won't make it, but others will be here for the first time. We have some new, enthusiastic volunteers who have infused our garden with fresh energy. Gardeners get to enjoy the cycle of life in the garden, as the roses wake up in spring, grow to maturity or decline, and set hips and sleep in the winter - but we see the same cycle in the people who come to be part of it.

We'll treasure everyone who comes, miss those who can't, and look forward to folks like Ann and Jeff and Sue and others coming another year.

I pulled out last years list and noticed this year is all about what is growing in the cemetery. Last year had a huge list of different roses. This years offer is just what I am interested in growing for my hot, dry and sunny plot of land.

Dawn -- Out of your second list, I grow FRPP and OTN. Mme. Caroline died on me, but I will eventually replace her.
She was WONDERFUL.
Paul Neyron wasn't good for me, near the coast -- but it's a very good inland rose.
Moreover, the cemetery clone of PN is an exceptionally good one.
I hear very good things about Baretta Street Bourbon.
As for HvF, well, I've never found a Lambert rose I did NOT like, so I think I would really love that one, too.

As to Perle d'Or, I can only ask: You mean you DON'T have it? How can you have missed it?
I might also mention that the cemetery clone of Reve d'Or is the best I've ever seen.

Last year I came later in the morning and Perle d'Or was gone and the Buff Beauty was tiny! I will be first in line this year!

I love the Perle d'Or at the cemetery! I have a large lot and room for large growers. I am inland and have heat and sun. Powdery mildew is my only battle.

Hundreds of well-dressed dowagers, towing Radio Flyer wagons, and bringing an assistant to guard the "take" -- running for the tables like mad.

Well, if Cornelia is on your list, you probably won't be disappointed. We have a lot of big, beautiful specimens. We also have quite a few Baretta St. Bourbons.

For a real California garden (with plenty of room) I'd also recommend Joasine Hanet. Gosh, I love that rose.

Overall, the plants are quite a bit bigger and better-grown this year. We've worked really hard. Most of the Perle d'Ors are small but look good.

Many of the roses in the catalog have only three or four plants of each variety. We stick the cuttings and pray. We'll have over 250 roses total - lots of onesie-twosies.
