I'll give you the advice someone gave me when I first came to GW and had the same problem. If both cotyledons are still held within the seed coat, at least one of them needs to be freed so the seedling can grow and the true leaves can emerge. A drop or two of human saliva usually softens the seed coat in a few minutes so you can very gently remove it. Worked fine for me! Here's some information from the tomato FAQs: Sometimes the cotyledons (the first leaves formed from the seed) have trouble getting loose from the seed coating. Be patient, as the leaves will usually escape. You could wet the seed coating, or you could try to carefully pinch off the seed coat, but if you pinch off the cotyledons, the seedling will likely die. A simple way to wet the seedlings is with a spray bottle of water set to mist. I hybd. every seed has a potential of being a different flower, if it wasnt for those halfbreeds you wouldnt have the ,reg. verities or named verities you have today , I have aprox 1000 plants with a few 100 more started , perhaps you should learn more on genetics ,which goes into the dna of flowers,flower pigments ,such as anthocyanins,flavons,carotenes or mads, proteins that control structural development of the bloom. The seeds dont play hanky panky under the dirt , the bees do it or you do it with pollin.There has been only three flowers that I donot care for and none of those were mine .the patterns on your flowers along with the edges are nothing but mutations caused by cross breeding the daylilie ,think abuut it , Then try hybd and see what you can do 3 or 5 years down the line.

Anna, I have never heard of cluster beans, so found some pics. According to Wikipedia cluster beans, Cyamopsis tetragonolobus, are mostly grown in India, sown in July and harvested in October. Chris, I think you can grow any of them in pots, the larger the better. Too bad you can't grow them outside with all your veggies. You can dig them up and pot them to overwinter them. How is the lemongrass doing? I'm still interested if you've got extras. Tom
