Plants my cat *loves:* * Dracaena marginata. Maybe because it looks like pet grass? Got it because I thought it might be tall enough to be out of her reach, but she'll stand on the planter and nibble on it! * Peace lilies. She'll nibble on whole leaves! She's eaten so much of it in the 6 months or so that I've had it, it's now smaller than when I bought it :( Plants she hasn't touched yet: * Pachira Aquatica (I've had it for a few weeks/month now). I got a taller version (waist/stomach height), but some of its leaves are still low enough that she can reach, especially with her planter-standing method. However, so far I haven't seen any nibbles! Fingers crossed that she doesn't grow accustomed to its scent or something of the sort and becomes more curious! * Snake plant. I didn't realize this plant was toxic for cats, but thankfully it's always been housed in areas she can't frequent -- in a hard-to-reach spot of a kitchen counter/island (I had it surrounded by cookbooks and my coffee maker) or its current spot at the top of a bookshelf. They don't require loads of light, so it's easier to position these plants somewhere you can enjoy, but your cat can't. * Succulents. I've kept a couple in window sills year-round and she hasn't touched them. Although I don't recommend keeping succulents indoors unless you have super bright Southern sunlight or grow lights. I had an Echeveria Green Goddess that is etiolated slightly from my mostly Southern, slightly Eastern window. I think I'll stick with sedums/Graptopetalum Paraguayense (which I think still look attractive with their sliiiiight legginess) for indoors year-round.

Hi guys thanks for all your help- I am not going to repost in the other forum at this time b/c I think I got some very good information here. I went to walmart today and they were out of cactus mix. Sigh. They did have a bag of perlite tho- but I wanted to check with you guys first if this is the correct thing to buy, and if so- what do I do with it. I have a bag of miracle grow potting soil- I am assuming I need to mix these two together. I also have some small gravel- about bean sized. I plan to put him in a terra cotta pot since plastic holds the water and doesn't breath. I could use some instructions on the dirt mix tho- and as an aside- I purchased a succulent that needs to be repotted- do I use the same type of soil for him? I also have two lemon trees I grew from seed that I wanted to put into citrus mix, however they didn't even carry that this year. No they don't ever grow lemons, sometimes they flower but that's ok- the leaves smell really nice.

Thanks for all the info everyone. I'll look into the cost of those sets and if we can make it work with our budget. But the cost and my budget aren't the only things holding me back from induction. Another big issue for me is that induction won't work with my beloved wok. It is my workhorse. I use it everyday for just about everything - stir frying, steaming, frying scrambled eggs, even boiling noodles and pasta. It's so versatile, there's almost nothing I can't do with it. I just cannot part with my wonderful wok!! It's a massive 19" rounded wok. I'm not sure what you call the metal it's made of - it seasons really nicely like my cast iron pan but it's really thin and light. It is magnetic but the options for making it work with induction are really limited and I don't even know if they'll work. I know there are special wok hobs with a concave surface but my wok is pretty massive. I doubt that enough of the wok surface would heat up. My wok is also quite rough on the underside. I'm sure the ceram would get scuffed up in no time at all. I've also seen those special three footed rings that might help to stabilize the round bottom and direct some of the induction up the sides but I also doubt how effective these rings are. The only two options are to get a flat bottomed wok (which I've cooked with before and did not like the results... and I know there are flat on the bottom/round on the inside woks but that seems clunky to me) or to go with gas.

I applied repellent but probably too late. I've found that the deer need to be trained to not come onto my property before the habit sets in. @ken_adrian Adrian MI cold Z5, these eaten hostas really are Plantagenias. They bloom very late, with large blossoms, and they are fragrant. The leaves don't look dark to me. In that photo with the chairs there are some dark-leaf non-Plantas that the deer didn't touch. You may be looking at them. They are the fortunei seedlings that I have in abundance. I've finally found a spot for them to homestead, in that garden with the pot of celery sticks that I posted. That's my newly developed fern garden. I've filled in the empty spots that should be ferns eventually with those seedlings. Some are mature now. It's dark in there, so a good spot for ferns.
