About Edmunds' 'Guarantee'

I've ordered bareroots from Edmunds' for a number of years. Until last year, I was always extremely pleased with their product. My 2007 order, however, was a disaster. Of the six varieties I ordered, four never broke dormancy. I contacted them several times before the August 1st deadline attempting to take advantage of their 'guarantee', but have been totally ignored. Have any of you been compensated recently for worthless plants from Edmunds'? I realize that the original owners are no longer associated with the operation.

I can't give you any insight but I've held off ordering from them since the change until I heard some feedback.
I think I'd call and email them and ask if they intend to make things right.

I've never had any experience with Edmunds, but I have with Jungs the parent company. Last year I had a issue with some bulbs recieved from Jungs. I contacted them and they issued me a refund without any hassle. I would contact Edmunds again and see what happens. If you don't get any satifaction, I would put it on Garden Watchdog. Let us know how this turns out

I think they don't know how to store them as Ann said, but worse yet is they don't know how to package the bareroots for shipping. My plants arrived around early February, bone dry, with no damp paper, filler, or anything to keep the roots moist. There was a sheet of plastic (not a bag) draped over the end of the roots. It was kind of like they stuck the plants in the box up-side down and then put this piece of plastic just over them and tucked it in the box. Thankfully, the roses appear to be making it, however, they are taking forever to break dormancy. I've had to cut off the upper portions on almost all of them because they've died back so much. There is still some hope, but, if they don't start sprouting soon, I will be asking for replacements! (This time!) I would not have ordered at all based on my experience with them last yr, except that I wanted ADOLPH HORSTMANN and they're the only place that have it, other than Hortico, and they didn't have it available this yr. I had gotten AH last yr from Edmunds to replace my old on that died a couple yrs ago. That one never did break dormancy and dried up into black sticks. I should've asked for a replacement last yr, but didn't. This time if these don't grow, I definitely will!

Did anybody else get the "free shipping" email from Edmunds?

I always like to take advantage of the free shipping from Edmunds, I think the free shipping is for orders of $100 or more. I got a little carried away and ended up ordering 15 roses from them. My excuse is, I want lots of roses for bouquets! I received that email too, but I am not ordering any more. I don't think it would hurt to call and find out about the free shipping though.

Did Edmunds' send me a rose with crown gall on the roots?

I wish I could be of help ac91z6, but I'm rather clueless when it comes to this topic. The first rose Edmunds sent me a rep told me their horticulturist believed it to be crown gall and to destroy the plant. They shipped new plants, and the new rose had similar roots to the first, I sent them pictures of the new one, and this time their horticulturist called me and told me this was normal for Francis Meilland's roots, and to not worry about planting the rose. I am not a horticulturist, so I took his word at face value and planted the rose. I'm not entirely naive, and created a paper trail with them should I have a problem down the road given the conflicting information they gave me. Out of the 80+ roses I've planted in the past three years, FM is the only one with roots that looked like that. My advice would be to reach out to Regan, offer to send them pictures and see what they say.

My memory is they grew their own roses back then. There would be specific comments in their catalog about things the did in their growing fields (For example, one year they grafted something mistakenly and Winnie said that variety kept ‘turning up like a bad penny’). It may have been that some varieties may have been purchased from Weeks et al, but primarily they grew their own. I miss their old catalog and Winnie’s blunt sense of humor.

Estrellabux, I had a problem with Janice Kellogg rose from Edmunds this year. The rose was packaged poorly and was dead on arrival. I soaked it anyway, planted and hoped for a revival. There was no miracle.
I sent email to Edmunds but never received any reply. I sent another one, nothing.
Then I sent email to Jungs Seed and promptly received a reply from Ruth. She informed me that I will be sent a replacement rose.
The new Janice Kellogg arrived already and I am absolutely happy about this new plant - carefully packaged, much longer roots, beautiful rose overall.

I have always had both wonderful service and high-quality merchandise from Jungseed. I have been a loyal customer since at least the early 80s. Every spring, the majority of my mail-order business goes to them, so I was thrilled to read that they had bought out Edmunds. They are a great company to do business with, in my experience.

In a way I was glad to see your post. I have been meaning to post something regarding Edmunds myself. I have purchased at least 70 or 80 barreroots from Edmunds beginning probably 12 years ago. I had not purchased anything for the last five years or so. This year I ordered 3 bareroots and I can not begin to tell you how dissappointed I was in them. These look nothing like the bareroots i used to get. Nothing! I feared for these as soon as I opened the box and sure enough none of them broke dormancy. Edmunds is a perfect example of the successful family business who earns our business over the years and then gets too big and successful and sells out to some big corp and the business goes to the dogs. I have not even bothered to call and complain because i'm not sure i want any bareroots from the company. Pitifull is all I can say. I will never buy from them again and would not recommend anybody else buy from them. They charged my card in december or very early in January and my roses did not get here until the end of January when I could always get them in December when the Edmunds family owned the business. What a shame

I had bad luck with Jung last year. First their speedy delivery service lost my order. They sent it again and a girl from down the block rung our doorbell and said it had been delivered to her house by mistake. I bought grapes, blackberries, goosberries and blueberries. Most have died. I asked for a replacement on one of them and they sent it. It died. I asked for a replacement on another and they said it was too late but gave me a credit for next year. It was unclear whether I would have to pay postage next year so I gave up. On the other hand, a coworker has been ordering from them for years. Go figure. I am glad that one employee (Ruth) is trying to give good service.
