I'm the Carole in the above threads.....and the answer to the last question from Paul was that it does indeed work on thrips. I am hoping that Paul sees this thread and answers all your questions. A few weeks ago when I visited Ashdown I saw the area where Paul was planning to test Good Health Roses. It contained roses of all ages and was a bit buggy. According to Paul the stuff worked well. I don't know what is in the stuff but I do know that the roses I picked up that day were the absolute picture of health. And I saw one of the workers spraying one of the tunnels with no protective gear....the thing I want to be able to do. I am using the fertilizer...with good results so far. My roses look great. I told this story in another thread so sorry for the rerun but I think it shows definite results. A few weeks ago I rescued a Slater's Crimson China that my neighbor had tossed dirtless into a ditch. I'm not sure how long it was in there but even though I had the flu at the time I crawled into that ditch and saved that rose. I put it in a pot hoping a bit of TLC would bring it back. It was looking like crap until I used Good Morning Roses on it and watered it well. It is now putting out new growth like crazy and I think it is going to live. I will definitely be taking the ride over to Organic Plant Healthcare as soon as Good Health Roses is for sale. I have been listening to a local radio show on Saturdays lately that Billy Styles has...he owns Organic Plant Healthcare. One of his best lines is that "No one waters the forest" and that with the use of these products we can feed the soil to create a sustainable garden. And if you think about it....he's right. We had the mother of all droughts here last summer and as I ride around I see all the redbud and dogwood in the woods blooming. The man is on to something IMHO. Carole

The prev owner has KO's and there was some dieback from the winter but not too bad, they have been blooming since early June. I prefer OGR's but the KO's are a good dose of bright color. I bought almost all own-roots this year which will take longer to really mature, but hoping they will also do better than grafted in our area with some protection. I just got first flowers on some of the own-roots, and a few others are budding. I've been feeding them with banana water about once a month and also blended compost in when planting, so it seems to be growing most of them quite nicely, they are very tall considering they were all band sizes originally! Also interesting, they are doing quite well re: disease resistance so far--the only thing that has gotten blackspot is the grocery store rose re-planted into a big pot (love doing this because there's usually 4-5 plants in the original pot and they fill a larger pot very nicely for summer color); also there are some thrips going around, but not too many, so have been pleasantly surprised that we haven't seen TOO many issues with the roses--given the humidity I was worried. I too, go barefooted and seeing as I don't wear a nighty, I'm bare-all when i cast off the dressing gown for a few hours in the early morning in my private back garden. Ladies, if you ever take the dare and drop the nighty, and the inhibitions - and, of course, if you have the privacy - I guarantee you'll become addicted to the feeling of that fresh clear morning air caressing all of your body and blending you with the nakedness that is part of the beauty of good ole mother nature. Roses putting on growth in Victoria, lovely, and it must be deep winter down there: and bindis in the lawn, I, too, have them, bindi killer - Yates, I think - gets rid of them for awhile; and rose thorns in your feet, New dawn etc, as Cimmeron said, Well, yeah, I know the feeling but that's part of the beauty of roses, isn't it? I think the worse thorns I ever had on a rose has to be the big climber Mermaid, i grew it once along with a pair of New Dawns and what a huge climber it is with vicious rear-curving thorns, they open you up like a surgeons knife. It was fine for the first few weeks, then I developed an allergic reaction after repeated using. Sam's club sells Barlean's Omega-Swirl liquid fish oil really cheap .. $4 for a huge bottle, 24 OZ. It tastes like sorbet. Regular price is over $30, but Sam's club sells it for $4 since it's end of season, plus there's the news that fish oil raised the risk of prostrate cancer. Dairy & calcium also raise prostate cancer risk. The late rosarian Karl Bapst had prostate cancer. From WebMD: " The researchers reviewed 12 studies, conducted between 1966 and 2005, which examined dairy and calcium intake and prostate cancer incidence. They report that men who ate the most dairy products had an 11% increase in prostate cancer risk compared with men who ate the fewest.
