Krista, your pictures are delightful and you seem to love the same colors in roses that I do. I had Stanwell Perpetual in a previous garden and yours makes me wish I had another now.

Fortunately the N.p. recurvus isn't expensive or hard to find. Depending on when we move, I'll probably take a clump - I have a lot of them, scattered around the yard. Honestly, I don't recall having so many varieties - I was definitely a forgetful squirrel when I buried them over the past 10 years. . . . I am really excited about the peonies - they've had time to establish now, and they should start to really perform this year. I'll be happy to post pictures when they bloom; a few already are setting buds on top of their foliage. I have a variety - singles, Japanese, doubles; heirloom and modern; darkest crimson to creamy white. I'm anticipating them as much as the daylilies. Most of the peonies will move with me too, if at all possible. Laurel

Jan, When trying to explain to my father the awe I felt when pulling up in the car I told him I felt like Dorothy in the Wizard of Oz when they got to the field of poppies, lol. Colette and FairySoapGirl, I'm glad you enjoyed the pics : ) Tom, It rained in the morning and then was cloudy for most of the time we were there. This was good since it was hot! when the sun came out. Plus taking photos is easier with clouds. Marie, Drag the child along, lol! Melissa, Good thing I didn't bring too much cash because it would be easy to spend too much! It was funny though when we were looking at the daylilies. If we went ooh at a daylily and the intro date was a 2000 something we didn't even look to see a price because we knew it would be too much, lol. Oh he emailed me back about the daylily, but couldn't open the photo link that I sent so I re-sent with a different link. I haven't hear back yet. Julia, Our morning rain traveled right out your way! I'm sure your garden tour was still a good time. I did show my friend, who knows nothing about daylilies, what the rain damage was on some of the daylilies. I did realize later that the rain made it a good day to shop. You'll love it! The display/house garden is behind the cobblestone house. Thankfully there were a few "regulars" near us that cut through the hedge opening or we might have missed it. I've been meaning to go to Mystic for awhile, but still have not gone. She has so many cool spider and unusual form ones. I've know about Grace Gardens for a long time and have not gone. I believe 2 of my daylilies came from there. A plant swapper that was from Penn Yan that used to come to the WNY plant swap gave them to me in exchange for my roses. I think I will make my husband go with me if we go to Hammondsport next summer again. We like to go there when we can. I've not heard of Cat Post Gardens. Another one I must see, lol! : ) Remy

Jean: Arctic Blaze is definitely a keeper. I was so surprised when three of the blooms opened at the same time. Real nice photo op. Recent purchase too. Purchased it from David's Dazzling Daylilies. He has some terrific plants and what a variety he grows. Nice thing he is only 45 minutes away from our place. Laurelin: Princeton Eye Glow came from Mystic Meadows as bareroot in early June. Sent up many scapes and blooms. Not disappointed with that one. Sea Gold came from EZ Plant in Michigan back in Mid May. Lots of buds still coming. Nice healthly bareroot plants. Your about an hour away from us. We are on the west side of Seneca Lake between Watkins Glen and Geneva. I'm a former NJ native and we moved up here permanently about 10 years ago.Love this area and can't beat the convenience of all the wineries :-). Julie: Thanks. Trahlyta I purchased from Mystic Meadows as a bareroot back in early June. It sent up many scapes and lots of blooms. Unfortuately, it's on it last one :-(. I have to say, this has been a great start this year with so many of the daylilies blooming during their first year. I like to think of mel's mix as the "ideal", as in, if money isn't an issue this is the way to max out ounces per square. However the reality is many of us do tons of compost and stopped making the mel's mix long ago. If you do less (or even no) ver. in your beds it should be fine, just put in really good compost.

It's grey and wet here, Krista. Thanks for your summertime reminders of roses and your pictures . I think I like the La Reine picture the best; love those cabbage-y roses. I hope you do add some to the Rose Gallery ABC's too. Your RdV is beautiful!

Hi Krista: I love all your pics, esp. Reine Victoria. Do you know of any tall, slender, and thorny rose? I'm looking for one to put in front of my tall High Efficiency Air Conditioner. Something that remains hardy, tall and thorny in zone 5a. That way thieves can't reach up to pull out the copper. Thank you.

Reine Victoria was one of my first antique roses and has remained a favorite. La Reine is one of my very best and the size of the plant is not intimidating for newcomers to antique roses. This rose is the easiest to sell at my yearly plant sale because of its shape, color and rich fragrance. I like your choices very much. Spring bulbs are always cheerful.

Strawberryhill, Gertrude Jekyll is very thorny, and grows tall, although not a climber here. I would wonder, though, about plant debris falling into the air conditioner....

Strawberryhill, I'm thinking Falstaff for tall slender and THORNY. He's been vigorous and very sturdy in my garden.
