New phalaenopsis catch 22 dilemma

TheMisterPants

I recently purchased six phalaenopsis orchids in bloom. Upon examining the root-balls, I am concerned that the sphagnum moss was packed too tightly. I want to remove some of the moss, but I have heard that manipulating the root system while in bloom can cause the flowers to drop. I supposed based on the circumstances, dropping flowers the lesser of two evils, but I want second (or third) opinions. Please help me out folks.
