Comments (8)What a great home you have to start with!! I love the look of modern furnishings in traditional homes, below are some houzz photos that came up with that search. IMO it adds instant warmth and uniqueness. I think sofa and accent chairs will give you more flexability and a more open sight line will be achieved with a low back sofa. I think the art and decor you should take your time with and let it speak to you and your families interests and tastes...is the art modern and artsy, or classic with a love of nature, is it fun and colorful with a nod to the bold. The backs of the built in bookcases could be wallpapered to reflect this too, and lighting will add a huge statement about you and how you want others to feel in your home....See MoreNeed help with paint and decorating our new main floor!
Comments (7)The best way to find the right color of gray for your walls is to go to BM, SW, or Behr's paint websites since they all have virtual rooms you can paint and try out new colors. Once you find one or more that you like, I suggest buying samples of each paint color you like and painting a good sized section of each color on the wall of the room you will be using them in. Look at the color or colors for at least 2 or 3 days to determine if they will work, looking at them in both sunny and cloudy days along with the lamps and lighting you will use in the room at night. I do love the color of the dining room! BTW - I have 3 shades of gray now in my house! I only use Behr paints and my foyer and living room are painted with Classic Gray (medium gray); Dark Pewter for my bedroom (I wanted a darker bedroom); and Sterling for my hallway, which is a light silvery gray....See MoreNeed help decorating new house!
Comments (16)First - you have a beautiful home! If I were you- I’d spend time browsing Pinterest and the photo section on here, and save any pics of rooms that you LOVE. That will help you define what kind of style you want to aim for. If you can hire a designer; great! If not, walk furniture stores, home decor stores, etc. and take pics of everything that you love or inspires you. Then post those ideas here and we can help! In general, I agree, don’t buy things just to buy them. You’ll end up with a house full of “stuff” you don’t particularly care about. Instead, take your time and go slow. It’s normal take a couple years to fully decorate a home! Also, typically, most people go too small. Think bigger. One big piece of artwork to fill a big wall space. When it comes to items like vases, candles, lanterns- Group in 3’s. Three vases of varying weights & heights will look better than three exactly the same. Now if you’re browsing and you see something that you just LOVE and cannot live without- you want to look at it everyday - buy it! It can become an inspiration piece! Sounds weird... but in my first condo I had this mug... it was like a wheat/mustard color. I LOVED it. I decorated my condo based on that mug and loved it! HAVE FUN!! :)...See MoreHelp with furniture placement and decor in new rental home Melbourne
