Oh my gosh. When I went in hospital to have my daughter, I bought my little son a hand made sock monkey so he wouldn't feel left out. I had forgotten all about that and it brings back good memories. They used to be common sight in old timey households, one of those toys you made a kid when you didn't have a lot of cash for fancy stuff. I loved them then, and love them still. Good blast from the past.

My grandma made one for all of her grandkids. I was the last grand kid. Mine was more generic than my sister's. Her's had red pompoms that mine did not. Sniff. She also made us those dolls that were two in one. You would flip the skit over and it had a head at the other end. Ours were very un-p.c. A "mammy" on one end and a little girl on the other end. (Mine had blonc hair for me and my sister's had brown hair for her.)

Wow, does that take me back! I had one (I haven't the vaguest idea who made it) and I remember learning to embroider so I could put the mouth and eyes on one for baby bro.
