He did a baaaaddd thing!

#2 Son just called to say, "Mom, I did a bad thing."

It seems that someone took his candidate's sign from his front yard. So he went and got another one a put some sticky roofing tar all around the edges. Sure enough, this morning it was gone. He knows that, at the least, someone got sticky fingers. He just hopes that they had an expensive car with light colored seats and they didn't notice the problem until they had dumped the sign on the seat.

Gotta love that boy, even if he did ask if his father had taken it.

oh oh..that tells me how he's going to vote. Hope sticky fingers really has sticky fingers. What a great idea and sounds like something his mother might do.

Thank you all for your nice compliments. Ana, we prefer to make the tatsoi salad for parties because the greens keep their shape, they are also called spoon, even with the dressing look fresh after a few hours, lettuce would not do that. It also tastes mild which is a plus for many dishes. If you don't already have is a good idea to buy a salad spinner to keep greens fresh anytime you need it. Like today, after we went shopping and came back tired, Cheryl had a dish with leftovers roasted veggies and tatsoi, everything warm from the microwave in 5 minutes. We bought some nice colorful containers like the chinese take out for everybody to take cookies home after they baked them. Tom, we should all grow greens like I said before, all you need is a container. I made Willy today a salad of tatsoi, tomatoes, red onions, calamata olives, tuna, with a little bit of olive oil and lime juice. And I mixed it with hot pasta, he said it was delicious! It took 10 minutes. Cheryl was saying, I wonder why more people don't grow this green? It is better than spinach. Fresh from the garden or cooked. Silvia

Oak, I think it's great that you had concern for the dog, but like the others, I don't think it was wise to have opened the door for a variety of reasons. You didn't know the owner or how he/she would have reacted to it;bad people drive nice cars too. You didn't know the dog or how it would react either. What if he had jumped past you or thought you were breaking in and bit you? There's just so many things that could have gone wrong. I think it would have made much better sense to either have the store use their loud speaker to call for the owner or to call the police so they could handle it. Either way the dog would have been taken care of before something tragic happened. At the very least the owner probably would have responded much nicer to a page from the store manager than to walk up to his/her vehicle to find you breaking into it. Like BusyBee said, if the owner was just running in for a few minutes he/she may have really been peeved that you made an unwarranted assumption and then broke into their car without permission. As far as taking offense when someone doesn't agree with you, what's the purpose of posting your question if you don't want someone's honest thoughts? At least the nay sayers are being honest with you. When you post in a forum setting, you leave yourself open for all to respond. If you don't want to hear everyone's opinions don't ask for them.

Lisa, I am sorry to read about the loss of your dog. I just wanted to share my own experience with a similar situation...maybe it will help you feel better about your choice. I took my 13-year old cat to the vet because of sudden weight loss and markedly poor coat. X-rays revealed an intestinal mass and I was given three options. I could put him down right away, put him through more testing that would stress him physically and emotionally, or send him for exploratory surgery. In the end, I chose the surgery. I thought "I know cats that have lived to 18 or 20" and to be honest, I was young, he was my first pet, and I was not ready to let go and have him euthanized. The vet did warn me that it could be difficult for him to recover, but she said she would make the smallest incision possible. I was at work on his surgery day when she called to tell me it was a huge mass involving his stomach and intestine and that due just to the size of the tumor, he would never have good quality of life again. She recommended euthanasia, which I of course realized was the best thing for him. I was unable to leave work so she euthanized him while he was still under for surgery. To this day I am devastated when I think I could have let him go without the trauma of that last overnight at the vet, the surgery, and especially not being able to say goodbye. As others have said, it is so very difficult when we have to make these kinds of decisions, and it's worse when you feel like you don't have time to think and weigh your options. But I believe that you chose well and did the most loving and caring thing left to do for your dear dog. I hope that time brings you peace with your decision.

I agree that the alarming thing is that he went to his friend's mom with the problem. It's one thing for a 10 yo to play one parent off the other, but to turn to a third party adult is another situation entirely. Kids are told in school here that "If someone is hurting you or being mean to you, talk to a trusted adult" and if my BF's son or one of my N&Ns ever did that, I'd be very very worried. I think I'd side with with poster who said to talk to a school counselor (etc) before calling CPS, considering since you've never seen any physical signs of abuse... I personally would be hesitant to jump straight to CPS, but it DOES need to be brought to someone's attention who is trained in this sort of situation. My BF's son is 8, and he'll often tell us "Mom said I wouldn't live to see nine if I keep leaving my Lego on the stairs" (obviously she's not serious)... Last week he told me "Grandma is sooooo mean, she gave me a spanking this morning when Dad came to get me" (I asked BF about this - it was at pickup time, so he saw it - she smacked him on the butt for talking back as he walked out of the room. Perhaps not the best approach to deal with sass, but certainly not the vicious beating A__ made it out to be) I don't worry too much about that sort of thing, but I WOULD be worried if he had bruises that certainly weren't from playing soccer or tobogganing, or he told a friend's parent, or he had a large-scale freakout about going back to his mom's. You're right for being concerned about this!

Yep, I'm with M, Sounds like he comes by it genetically! I sure like that thinking. What's wrong with people today, taking someone else's sign? Shame on them. Good for son.

I may be the one who harbors the secret fantasy (that I'll never act on) about switching everybody's signs because I dislike them all... but that's downright funny!!!

Well, the jokes #2 Son. Sticky Fingers rammed the sign down in the middle of a nearby big azalea bush. Someone is going to have to pull it out.

I got my sign nicked from my front yard too. So did my neighbor, we had a serial sign stealer in my neighborhood.

Marda, I'm wondering how you know who Aggie's son is voting for? (no need to answer, it might be too political) In my experience people driving the kind of car you describe are in both political parties. Or it could have been the Green Party and they rode off on their bike to recycle it. Or Ralph Nader's party and they took it home paint it over with "Vote Nader" when he runs again in 2012:)

No, none of the above. I'd never make any silly generalizations based on what car someone drives. We've been to Aggie's house,we've eaten out with Aggie and Mr. Aggie twice and and I know their general political leanings..although they both switch from time to time based on particular issues.

Still, the thief got sticky fingers to match his sticky fingers, and I don't think that's a bad thing at all. I'm still snickering.
