So, we have just a few days left until Election Day, right?

That's what I thought too. Soon it will be over. No more TV ads. No more calls at dinner time. Win or lose, it will all be over.

Well, maybe not.

The telephone just rang. Republican Survey. It was a computer message giving a list of names and wanting to know which we would vote for in 2012. That's right. The Presidential election in 2012. I'll tell you one thing, that little piece of aggravation has already swayed my thinking. How could they be so stupid!!!

Averaging 4 calls a day (mostly at dinnertime) and 15 to 20 computer hangups.

You're right, the fourth time a call came from X suggesting I go out and vote for him, was the time I was glad I had already decided he wasn't representative of any policy or forum I wanted in legislature. Voting against him? Oh, yes indeed.

Yep, automatic, call me at mealtime and you are scratched from the slate of people I want in any office. Affiliation be damned.

I am a bit like yourself glaswegian Not always on the garden web forum but like to keep in touch some I remember seeing you on the Brugmansia Forum. To bad you could not bring plants from your garden I was fortunate on the occasion of my last move that I was able to bring quite a bit along But I found as well, that the plant sales of different horticultural groups and various fundraising plant sales found me with lots of inexpensive basic plants. Kind of nice isn't it to have a blank canvas. With your expertise in no time at all you will have marvellous gardens. Hope you are going to stay put for awhile Moving for sure is not just simple. There is a grower of Brugmansia in Quebec that my youngest daughter ordered plants from, but is to late I expect for this year You might even be able to simply drive to the Brugmansia grower in Quebec. Will look up the name of it if you are interested All the best

Hi There I am in Stoney Creek and am collecting a lot of seeds. I have cardinal climber and white cypress vines, 10 varieties of sunflowers, including a small variety with multiple heads called "paquito". I also have hyacinth bean, sweet peas (mixed colours) and purple and dark blue delphinium seeds. Double poppies and corn poppies and am intending to collect (but unsure how they will produce as yet) flying saucer morning glories. I have alot of the ordinary morning glories in purple and pink) and some chocolate morning glories. I also have thunbergia (orange) and have grown a blushing suzie - which is shades of red thunbergia, but still waiting for it to produce seed pods. I have red maltese cross. I do have all the latin names for these plants but my computer crashed and I lost the file so bear with me. Let me know if you would like any of these. Sally

Not necessarily, but very likely. I can imagine someone changing his/her passwords just on principle, but this is a man who has refused to stop talking to or IM-ing the newest woman and told you he didn't care if you read his emails, so why change the passwords now? You can probably assume that he does have things he doesn't want you to read. On the other hand, he had the option of secretly setting up a secret new email account to communicate with her--there are several companies that offer free email (Lycos, Hotmail, Juno, Netzero, to name the ones I am familiar with), so perhaps it is fortunate that he chose to change his passwords instead and thereby has alerted you to certain possibilities about his activities. By the way, is he able to read all *your* emails, including the ones you may get from your friends at GardenWeb? If so, I wouldn't be surprised if he were doing it, considering how he has shown himself to be lacking in any sense of honor. Just in case he reaches the point of being physically unfaithful to you (and you may not even know it if he is), you should insist on protection and possibly even get tested for STDs. This is a dangerous age we live in, with AIDS and other nasty things floating around. I have never forgotten reading once, "Remember, in a sense you are having sex with every other person your partner has had (unprotected) sex with. And when you think that those other people may also have had multiple partners who in turn had multiple partners, you can see how great the danger may be. Take good care of yourself. Your husband's actions are making you feel bad and probably hurting your self-image, but it is he who is wrong. Tell yourself you deserve better treatment and hold your head up.

Oh I'm so sorry. Finding out the loss is greater than you thought is almost like losing it all over again. (((hugs))) There is something other than all new or a bad replica...it's a good replica. Friend of mine (I should take pics some time) built a new house about 15 years ago, and to walk inside, you'd think it was from the 17th-18th century. He worked with a fellow who salvaged antique wood and he used real beams, flooring, boards, etc. to create an excellent replica. There are also in between steps, like using more modern materials in the same way that they did back then so it gives the same look and coziness and feel, but in a slightly fresher way. I was in another house on a house tour that was a lovely Queen Anne style victorian...just gorgeous. We were stunned when they told us where the addition was. They did such a good job of replicating the style and trim, that it was seamless. So it is possible. Also, keep in mind the benefit of the new is that it won't need the maintenance or have the issues (think electrical, plumbing, rot) as the old has. And the new can provide wonderful features that the old never could like in-floor heating, adequate electrical outlets for today's appliances...

Unless I am waiting for a call-back from somebody, my phone is on silent. The family knows that they need to e-mail me. The caller ID gets screened a couple of times a day.

Oh Puffygirl, I'm right there with you. The livingroom phone is quite close to me so when those interminable messages start I just pick up the phone, click it on..and click it off. Really aggravates me the nerve of them thinking they have the right to make the messages so very long too. 2012...........shudder.........

You can thank laws with no teeth, lobbies and the judicial systems for allowing callers to hide behind anonymity. Nuisance phone calls are nuisance phone calls, whether they are telemarketers, political parties or charities. There should be a Federal 'want those types of phone call' list, not a 'do not call' list. It would be pitifully tiny and resolve a lot of angst.

I think I should just quit answering the land line. It seems like it's either political calls or charities begging for money.

When a call shows private or out of area or some odd thing that does not tell who is calling it is usually a survey, political or telemarketer. If it is a telemarketer I will get their company name and then tell them all our numbers are on the do not call list and their company will be paying a $1000 fine when I turn them in for calling and not being identified on caller ID.

I am nice and congenial since the worker is just trying to make a living at the worst job in the world but it gets them to think about who they are working for.

The survey and political I talk to but give no info and ask silly impertinent questions till they get exasperated and hang up.

They should always show up for who they are on caller ID or no way do they get any info. Never give info unless you know who you are talking to and even then be wary.
