Starting all over again, need your help

Hello all,

It's been a while since I have been on here. We have been busy with selling a house in the GTA, and buying another one in Ottawa Canada and moving with work.

Sadly I had to leave all my plants behind, and am looking to start all over again in the medium size backyard we have now. I have cleared out the backyard and now have a blank canvas to work with.

I am looking for seeds and bulbs donation if you have any to spare please

I can understand not bringing your plants all that way, but what happened to your seeds?

Just FYI, here's the GardenWeb policy for the exchange forums:

"The exchanges were created to facilitate the arranging of trades of plants and seeds between members. Please do not use them to solicit donations, ask for free plants or seeds, or ask for items in exchange for postage. All requests must be in the context of arranging a trade. If you have nothing to offer at this time, please wait until you do"

Glaswegian: You should post this request on the Canadian Exchange page. Ask for the seeds etc. explaining that you will provide the SASE (Self addressed stamped envelope). A lot of people do it and there are a lot of us that will help.

Glas, I saved quite a bit of seed. In fact, most of my canna were started from seed last year. I thought I'd germinate more this year, but I won't have any room for them if I do. If you'd like I can send you some seed for postage. Garrett.

Hi There I am in Stoney Creek and am collecting a lot of seeds. I have cardinal climber and white cypress vines, 10 varieties of sunflowers, including a small variety with multiple heads called "paquito". I also have hyacinth bean, sweet peas (mixed colours) and purple and dark blue delphinium seeds. Double poppies and corn poppies and am intending to collect (but unsure how they will produce as yet) flying saucer morning glories. I have alot of the ordinary morning glories in purple and pink) and some chocolate morning glories. I also have thunbergia (orange) and have grown a blushing suzie - which is shades of red thunbergia, but still waiting for it to produce seed pods. I have red maltese cross. I do have all the latin names for these plants but my computer crashed and I lost the file so bear with me. Let me know if you would like any of these. Sally

Riverflow is for new builds I believe. You can use a Fastlane for a retrofit. If I were you I would invite a couple of pool builders over to give you an estimate of your 'dream environment' so that you know what you're working with. You could be talking $40k or $100k, you don't know until you check. I'm with your SO, i wouldn't really like throwing money at the pool when I'd end up with something that is by definition still lacking, but if getting what I really really wanted instead costs 80k, eh, I don't know so much about that.

melsouth and mdlm, I can't tell you how many times during these last few weeks that I've been stopped in my tracks by the thought of the whole house burning to the ground and losing much more than we did. My heart goes out to you. There really isn't anything to do but carry on, is there? melsouth, I know exactly what you mean about the PTSD. I've found it hard to remember people's names and feel like I'm walking in a fog. Before this, I felt pretty invincible. Now every time we leave the house, I feel like something is going to happen - car accident, whatever. Just don't feel safe. I really hope your insurance made good for you and things are going as well as they can. I will take the advice to be judicious in our decisions and get professional help. I tend to take the safe route and not make major leaps, so chances are that things will remain pretty much the same. Maintaining the character of the home is extremely important to us and it sounds like the insurance company is planning on factoring that into the cost of the restoration. I am seriously considering expanding that bathroom into our guest room. It wouldn't be a huge change to floor plans or anything and the plumbing already runs through that room. We rarely use the room (it just had a twin bed) and have a large finished basement with a powder room that guests can use in a pinch. Thanks again everyone for your support and suggestions. I really started this thread as a whim, but it has been so helpful to get your thoughts and advice.

I was gone most of last year and earlier this year on military duties, and hardly had time to collect seeds. Yes if anyone is offering, I'll provide a SASE

glaswegian, welcome back to the forum. and glad you are back safe and sound. I don't have seeds now but perhaps put out a request again around Feb or Mar. That's when I start buying up new seeds again and I'm sure I'll have plenty to spare then.

You are certainly in the right place for gardening. There are a lot of gardening clubs in Ottawa. I'll bet quite a few of them will give you plants and seeds.

I am a bit like yourself glaswegian
Not always on the garden web forum but like to keep in touch some

I remember seeing you on the Brugmansia Forum.
To bad you could not bring plants from your garden
I was fortunate on the occasion of my last move that I was able to bring quite a bit along

But I found as well, that the plant sales of different horticultural groups and various fundraising plant sales found me with lots of inexpensive basic plants.

Kind of nice isn't it to have a blank canvas. With your expertise in no time at all you will have marvellous gardens.

Moving for sure is not just simple.

There is a grower of Brugmansia in Quebec that my youngest daughter ordered plants from, but is to late I expect for this year
You might even be able to simply drive to the Brugmansia grower in Quebec. Will look up the name of it if you are interested

Ontnative....yes some tomatoes, peppers, shade and sun seeds will be nice please.

Diane...I remember you from the Brugmansia forum also. If you can get the name of the brug grower for me and address, that will be great
