I really didn't think there was such a thing

Been ill with what I thought was a severe cold, doctor told me it was walking pneumonia. I thought that was just an old term for some flu or coldlike symptons. Turns out there really is such a beast. The difference is that you will get better even if not treated with walking pneumonia although it sure will take a while. Worst cough I ever had especially when I laid down, the lungs begin to fill. Turns out there is an epidemic of this beast in town going through the schools and elsewhere.

After a week of antibiotics am beginning to think I may survive but still barking like a seal.

Would not reccomend this to pass the time. Unfortunately, Leone is showing signs of the same thing. Doc says it is quite contagious and is starting her early on drugs.

My sympathy, George and Leona! I had experienced this nasty thing a couple of times, and the problem always is that it's always advanced before it is diagnosed, or, at least with me, it is already going hard when I decide to see a doctor.

You folks were on my mind the last couple of days, since I hadn't seen you on the GP. I'm glad to hear you are on the mend. Plenty of chicken soup, and some good hot tea with lemon.

I was in the same situation as you for child number two, and had taken number one into our old family doc for a well-baby checkup and told him I just wasn't snapping back from pregnancy as quickly as I thought I should be. He put me on the table and told me I was six months along. No not obese, in fact not even chubby. He asked couldn't I feel the kicking? No, I thought it was gas. LOL. I don't know how much further along I would have gotten before I noticed. I suspect about month seven, as that is when the belly started. I knew what pregnancy felt like, but I was a first-time postpartum and that I wasn't so sure about. Yes, I have watched that TLC series when I was insomniac and I also know of a couple of local cases when I was working with moms/babies. I think part of my not noticing was that I had gained a lot in pregnancy number one, and was having some personal problems in pregnancy number two and was actually losing weight in that pregnancy, not gaining it. You know how distorted body image can get.

Isn't that something? You know, I've still got some putting up scapes and it got down to 30 last night....probably need to cut the scapes, but dang I hate to do that!! I checked them today, and they don't seem to be hurt at all. It's going back into the 70's here by the weekend. Guess I'll just let them be. Hey, maybe I'll have dl's blooming for Christmas!! OK ... you appear to love wood, especially DARK wood. It's nice! 1 - I like the granite and it's a calm flecked one so you can go wild with the backsplash if you want without the "warring divas" problem. 2 - The square mosaic is very interesting, the stone behind it definitely less so. What would a solid backsplash of the mosaic do? Not as an accent, but as the whole area? 3 - use a rug (get a washable one, or a floorcloth) under the table to define the dining area and break up the wood a bit. Pick one with colors that exist in the rest of the house. 4 - Paint walls asoft green, or blue (whatever blends well in your house) and pick up the colors in the rug under the table and a few accessories in the kitchen. Sit back and have a glass of your favorite beverage ... call it done!

It took me almost an hour to get in, and I'm not sure what I finally did right. Who knows if I will be able to get in again? I went in so many circles I was dizzy. And I hate that there are so many click-click-clicks to work my way down into Houzz to find these forums. The harder it is to find your place, the less likely people are to use it. I found this out at work when helping develop our webpage. I will agree with others that these pages are awfully dull looking.

My mother had this once. Ever since she has been prone to getting really bad coughs every time she catches a cold, I guess it weakened her lungs. I smoked for a gazillion years and I get fewer colds and coughs than she did at my age.

So glad you are better, and I hope Leone's bout is short.

I had it long ago, and coughed so much and so hard that I cracked a rib. Took longer to heal the rib than to get over the pneumonia. Once you get your appetite back, go ahead and indulge in eating onions fresh or cooked -- they will ease the coughing. After the onion, nibble a few sprigs of fresh parsley, it's high in vitamin C and helps neutralize "onion breath".

I can feel for you as I had this once also, miserable is all I can say. Sure hope you are feeling "up to snuff" again and that Leone can get over it quickly also!

Sorry to hear that you and now Leone are not well. Pneumonia of any kind is serious; I remember when I was in my late 20s with three kids, I felt so bad for so long. When I finally went to the doctor, he told me I had walking pneumonia and to go home and go to bed. I didn't tell him that there was no way I could do that. By that time I was over the worst of it, I guess, so just hung on till it finally went away.

George, I hope you feel better real soon and that the antibiotics will help Leone get better, quicker.

I'm in the trenches with you. "Barking like a seal" -- perfect description. My doctor thinks I have Whooping Cough or Walking Pneumonia. (I thought we'd retired Whooping Cough years ago, but apparently it's on the rise again.) So I'm on antibiotics, probiotics, and Robitussin. And staying away from the madding crowd, working from home. Getting some filing done. Being amazed by how many hours per day the cat actually sleeps. Sometimes when the coughing spasms end there are tears streaming down my face, my nose is running, and it seems like my entire upper body is going all guns to get rid of all its moisture at once. I find it's easier to sleep propped up by a whole bunch of pillows. My doctor also "prescribed" humor: "watch a funny movie," she said. So I'm getting Netflix to send me "Greenfingers," "Ball of Fire," and "Creature Comforts - Season 1."

They won't help walking pneumonia, but flu shots will be available, soon. We think they help us stay clear of a few bugs, anyway.
