Another fungus question - re: composting

Uh oh. Until recently I hadn't noticed the mold covering the leaves that are falling in our yard (they just started really falling last week). I've made a point of throwing out our garden waste instead of composting it, as the plants were so obviously covered in something undesirable. However, we've been adding our lawn clippings and leaves to our compost pile for months.

What now? I've already put some of this compost in the garden, and have a lot more that's almost ready. Should I can the compost idea? (It was really cooking last month, but now that it's getting cooler it's slowed down quite a bit. Not sure it would get hot enough to really kill anything...)

On the other hand, the garden is surrounded by lots of trees, and the leaves are going to get in there one way or another.

Any thoughts? Thanks. alliemack
