Veggie Tales - August 2017
Comments (229)Itsmce - hey whatever you gotta do to get the deed done! Isgen - that is a monster!!!! Is that a pink brandywine? Correct me if I'm wrong but I think it's the biggest we've seen on here this year (I might be wrong, did jack crack 2 lbs?) I have been working late all week so hadnt gotta to harvest in a while - so had a real nice haul tonight - big milestones were hit - up over 500 lbs total (523.36 to be exact but who's counting), and 300.08 lbs of tomatoes!!! Poblanos for days...See MoreDecember 2022 Veggie Tales
Comments (63)It's -1 °F here at noon. Wind chill of -25 according to 2. We got snow but there's so much drifting that it's all blowing to the east. What it looks like is a light dusting with grass showing thru. But we're on top of the hill. Channel 2's videos show them plowing at the mall?? It's so windy that I'm wondering if the drifting snow ever comes in before the snow falling from the clouds. Wondering what the uncovered lettuce will look like after Mondays warming trend begins. I see green poking out of the ice and snow from the window....See MoreVeggie Tales - January 2023
Comments (52)OK, so here is my 2023 tomato list. To answer Cindy's question, we get Black Krim and Cherokee Purple first and they taste best, then later we get Chocolate Stripes and they taste best. Last year Vinson Watts held on very late and then it tasted best. And we eat all of the rest of them whenever. After trying many others we only grow Sungold and Chocolate Cherry small ones and they are abundant. The 5 experimental ones at the bottom came from Tomato Jim Wyant this year...it was $17 but we can afford it if we cut back on something. A couple of those are supposed to be very early which I hope is good for our cool climate. We are about half way through last year's tomato sauce so should make it. This year I'm going to can some crushed tomatoes because they are so good in pasta sauce....See MoreJanuary 2024 - Happy New Year
Comments (47)Kim, you are ahead of me, but you may be q 100 miles south of me also, so spring may hit you a little sooner. 32 tubs are a lot of tubs to fill, and of course you know how heavy they can get. Some of my tubs have onions in them, and the last time I checked they were doing well, but they are not bulbing onions. I have been using my perennial a lot, try to get Madge use to using them. I even used some winter onions, jalapenos and sweet potatoes in kraut and weiners at lunch, it sounds sickening, but it was good. I did not put the sweet potato slices in till everything else was about done. The sweet potatoes were still crunchy. I used the Red Wine Velvet sweet potatoes, which are pretty sweet. Madge is very kind to me, I like to experiment with everything I do. I have been out raking leaves to put on the garden, I wish they were shredded so they would stay in place better....See Morevgkg Z-7 Va
