If the plants have been flowering for less than three weeks, it's normal. I'm growing the heirloom lemon cucumber as well. What you need to do is be patient. There must be a dozen existing threads on this same issue throughout this Vegetable Forum. It's normal in the early stages of when a squash/melon/cucumber plant starts producing flowers for fruit to abort and for there to be a flush of male and/or female blossoms. Consider it the puberty stage for the plants. The plant needs to mature before it is ready to create fruit. Have faith that nature has genetically programmed everything to happen at the proper time. After three weeks, if you need to, you can alway hand pollinate.

@ joe jr I am as thoroughly involved with my man garden as I possibly could be, so if the blooms would have opened, I would notice it! I am doing a human anatomy course that finishes in a few weeks, but despite that I still have been paying close attention. ESPECIALLY because of the thrip infestation I have been dealing with for the past week. "Sometimes, the flower opens only for a very short period in the day, so it's easy to think it never opened if you didn't catch it" - They never even begin to turn yellow as they should before they open, they only stay green as I pointed out. Unless they are wickedly sly and open up for only minutes, then there is no way I am missing them lol. "I can't remember what nutes you are using or if you have mentioned it elsewhere" - I am using FoxFarm trio nutrients, and I am currently using solely the bloom formula in conjunction with FF bigbloom. The FF Bloom formula is called TIGER BLOOM and has an N-P-K rating of 2-8-4. I use 2 tsp's per gallon of this, plus a Tbsp of the FF Big Bloom which is basically nothing more than a medium which prevents unwanted salt-buildups, and contains very little nitrogen (0.01 nitrogen rating). ALSO: I have pulled apart a few of the flower pedals from the male flowers and rubbed them directly on the green "to-be-flowers" on the female organs but this has obviously not worked because they just die off regardless. @homehydro Good points lol. Sometimes I think things are going to be deduced, but this is not always the case.

Kathy..I love the look of Praying Hands in pots..vase shaped (upright - heard both names) are my favorite..here's hoping that drainage holes and a bark heavy potting media do the trick..

This was cross-posted in the FL gardening forum, so I am presuming you live here, somewhere? FWIW, this is just the beginning of vegetable gardening season in much of the state. It's been way too hot, humid and buggy to grow much of anything. Some fruiting veggies like tomatoes cannot set fruit when temperatures are too high. They will still bloom, but no fruits will develop. Also, cucumbers are not always self pollinating, and even when they are, they have separate male & female flowers, so if there are female flowers(tiny fruits at the base) but no males(no tiny fruit at the base) pollination cannot occur. Looks to me like caterpillar damage is destroying your plants, as well. If you examine the undersides of the leaves, you might find tiny bright green caterpillars that blend in, along the ribs of the leaves. IMPE, it's often not worth the trouble, effort and expense to try to fight the bugs at this point, since the plants may already be so weakened they will never do much better.
