Having problems with my cucumber plants.
Comments (1)If you only have male flowers, then it just means the squash plant isn't old enough to be producing fruit yet. The male flowers appear first. I did have one squash last year that produced mostly male flowers, and it was in a place where it did not get as much sun as it could have....See MoreHelp! Have to cut back my plant today so I can bring pot indoors
Comments (3)Sorry for delay again but don't have access to computer on a daily basis :-) No doubt the topgrowth of the vine would be fine in zone 6.....it is just the root system I'd be concerned about. Roots are much more vulnerable to cold damage. If the plant is in the ground, it is not really an issue as the surrounding soil mass is adequate insulation. But the roots in a container don't have that benefit. And sometimes (maybe often), the roots actually come into contact with the container wall and almost direct exposure to cold air temperatures. You could keep the pot outdoors but you will need to provide some additional protection. If you can slip the clematis container inside a larger container and then stuff the open space with crumpled newspaper or what have you, that should help. Or wrap with bubble wrap. If the temps look like they will drop into the low 20's (really anything below 25F) for any length of time, you may want to bring the container indoors. Just get it back out as soon as possible....See MoreMy tomato plants have been cut off whole on the upper stems-not deer?p
Comments (4)I have seen deer leap over 9 foot tall fences so a fence would never be too high, however, a lack of tracks may be telling. If the soil is soft enough for deer tracks it should also be soft enough for rabbit tracks, or any other animal. How high up is the damage? If over a foot high it probably is not rabbits. What comes to mind with tomatoes right off would be the tomato hornworm....See MoreNeed help on transplanting dahlias that have been in pot too long!
Comments (14)Yes ma'am! U hit it right on the money! I've learned not to let a rotten tuber bring me down! Funny, bc the ones that rotted on me this year, were my Very Fav ! out of all the varieties I bought! I learned rather quickly not to get too attached to any variety & if I'm truly obsessed than I might as well buy a few of the same-☝ just in case! I also learned not to keep the darn tubers in pots for long! Just long enough for some green sprouts & a few roots & in the ground they go! Ive been trying to experiment with laying them in the ground & only covering them enough to keep from scalding in the sun to sprout them this way - is this safe or does it affect overwintering tubers (In ground) Bc I'm not digging any tubers up-there's no point- we don't dip below freezing much & if so it's for just a few nights each winter I'm leaving my tubers in ground @ mother natures mercy & I'll have to dig them up and start fresh every couple years Bc we have root knot nematodes & I REFUSE to treat my soil with vapam after reading ab this crap- id rather let the nematodes have at my flowers than use such a caustic chemical ! Im trying to build the microorganisms in my soil not wipe out the populations! It sickens me to think I have to throw out all my tubers every couple years. I'm sure there's going to b certain varieties I had trouble finding to purchase so throwing out tubers is going to be nerve wracking when the time comes! I'm trying to mentally prepare myself for it now so I'm the next year & half or so it won't hurt as bad. I hope to build my soil up enough that there won't be anymore root knot nematodes in my garden beds- I'm doing all I can to learn ab deterring the bad & encouraging the good nematodes ☺️ I'm still ready to pack up & move tho but no one understands how much this means to me- ☝I'm so done being a Floridian !!...See Morenicholsworth Z6 Indianapolis
