Grass Seed Accelerator - One-Step Starter Fertilizer and Seeding

I came across this product while I was in one of the big box stores and I was Grass Seed Accelerator and it looked like something that may work especially if don't have an irrigation system and water restrictions that allow you to water every other day and I was wondering if one had tried this product or a product like itand how did it work for you?

Well, since you posted the same thing on another thread two hours ago, I have to assume that this is spam.

My suggestion is that anyone reading this thread should never buy this product.

Doesn't look like spam to me. Usually spammers sign on and send their spam the same day.

I would have the same suggestion as turf toes, but not for the same reason. I live under permanent watering restrictions, but if you are reseeding, they make exceptions.

If anyone has actually used it, it would be interesting to read about their results.

Eastpenna, If you go with it, curious what you think. I'll post my experience as well. BTW I said 4 bags, I meant the 30 lb. bags, which are much cheaper than the 10 pounders, though still a bit more expensive than traditional alternatives. Also curious to see how we both fare with the Orbit timer system, have decided to go with that as well. Sounds like we'll be in the same boat, Good Luck! Paul

No, but I wouldn't bother. Purchasing the seed and a large bale of peat moss will cover far more area much cheaper.

hey guys I need your help ! so I bought an old McLane 10 blade 5.5 FT Briggs and Stratton. It cut nicely until I got to this muddy area. I tried to level it downward so water will follow out on the street when it rain and I think it kindda work. But due to thick later of top soil in this area, the sprinkler head is buried and the head cannot get above the grass so whenever it runs, water accumulate so much that it become this muddy. This might take two weeks to dry up or more. I have a few questions. 1. I have a Hunter rotating head. How can I raise the head up so it spray above the grass? Is there a raiser I can add to raise it up? 2. what can I do to existing area to hardening it up? 3. What is the typical maintenance for the Mclane mower? when and how often to check the air filer, change the oil, or whatever I need to look out for?

I've never used one either. As has been mentioned, the seed contains all the nutrition the new plant needs for a short term until the roots develop. If you apply starter at the same time as the seed, the fertilizer will wash away before the grass roots have time to use it. Fertilizing bare soil makes no sense...unless you are using organic fertilizer.

I have used it on my current KBG renovation project. I will be posting more pictures on Monday, that will be day 21. It is actually a little further along that I thought it would be at this time, but you may judge that for yourselves.

haliwa01, I still started out watering three times per day, As of this week I have dropped to two times per day, but a little longer each time. Next week I may go to once per day, but for a longer duration.

I should add that I do not feel my results are any better or worse than other members on this forum who are also renovating, nor that they are from using any one product. I had just be telling myself not to expect to see anything at all until atleast day 14.

I am using it this year also on my renovation. I think it works well as a mulch, and the inclusion of the starter fert is a plus. But I bought it because it seemed so convenient to be able to spread it with a spreader, and it turns out that many, many passes with the spreader are required to get decent coverage, at least with my speedygreen 3000. So much for the convenience factor, though I am still pleased with it as a mulch.

But I'm not confident that any mulch can offset having to water only every other day, you may need another plan to deal with that.

Having played around with Penn Mulch (which I assume is like this) as well as simply topdressing with peat moss and compost, I found that the peat moss and compost was much better.

If I ever get around to more of the corn gluten meal experiments that I have been talking about on the organic board, maybe I will try something with this.

I actually used both the greenview product in some areas and regular old straw in a few others. I did not see a great deal of difference in the amount of germination in the areas, but it appears as though the areas with straw had more blades that were taller. Perhaps because they had to seek out light an inch or so higher then the greenview pellets.

I used starter fertilizer on the entire lawn as the amounts of fertilizer in the greenview product are negligible

Actually this is not entirely true, the npk numbers may seem low, however you use much more product by weight than a straight synthetic fertilizer.

I tried it - nothing special. It did expand when watered and did work as a topdressing. I don't think it was any better than compost or peatmoss though. It was pretty easy to sprinkle in a patch, but I wouldn't bother with it on a larger area.

One plus - if you use it to patch small areas here and there, it is easier to spot than something "natural" looking. That makes it easy to hand water and not forget any spots.

Several people mentioned peatmoss as a topdressing, where can you buy bales of peat moss?

I am sorry if my original posting appeared like spam. I was up early on Saturday morning and I thought I had posted the message and when I checked I didn't see it, so I posted again and what do you know I had 2 posts out there with the same subject.
