Brassia Rex 'Okika'...two looonng spikes almost with flowers almost open (don't know how to link pics but working on it...)

Hmmm, only Chaemangis hariotiana (which has been blooming for a while now - almost done) and Pleurothallis ornata, also in bloom for a while. But, excitingly enough, I do believe Cattleya luteola is spiking, which I thought would never happen. It is under an 85W CFL, but it hasn't been that fond of me. I've finally figured out that it A: doesn't like the fan, so I've since taken it out, and B: it keeps growing up toward the light and then fries its new growth. I moved it a little and maybe it is happier for it? We'll see.

Aerangis fastuosa looks like it is in early spike, but hasn't really progressed much. Still fighting the darn snails, I think. I've now lost Aerangis kirkii #1 and my Pleurothallis alata, which really ticks me off.

I have a baggy baby just started its flowers two days ago.

Angraecum mauritianum just opened its first bud ever today!
I think the Max. tenuifolia still has one flower.
My Dendrobium aggragatum/lindleyi has two spikes, one open and one opening.
Ang germinyanum still has the one flower as seen in the gallery.
Scottianum is working on a bud.
The Aerangis modesta x Aer platyphylla has a thick spike still developing after months and months.
Aerangis verdickii has one 2" spike growing and a nub on the other side.
Aer. somalensis has two spikes growing.
Florulentum has one fat bud.
Cyrtorkis arcuata finally has a nub of a spike but also suffered severe cold damage after I put a bunch of plants outside too early. :(
Ancistrochilus thom. is still opening flowers.
My Cadetia and a few pleuro types are pretty much always blooming. Same with Dend/Dock rigidum.
My Gongora has a REALLY long spike growing. It used to bloom a lot until I started neglecting it. Same with Psychopsis.
I may have left something out but the important point is i'm swimmin' in Angs! Woohoo!

I'm starting on my second year of some paph and phal species seedlings (@35), I really expect most of those little fellers to bloom in the next 12 months. Kind of exciting after babying them along for the last 13 months

I grow indoors so my seasons can get a little confused.

I am having a very "flowery" Apring and May - the list is too long :) I sure am happy the long winter is over (it was not without losses...)

A lot of cattleyas (Laeliocattleya schilleriana, Catt. intermedia, etc), a few dendrobium species (parishii, etc), phals - (Phal mannii flava, hybrids), just to name a few.

And of course, Maxillaria tenuifolia, smelling really good..

Oh, how I wish I were home where the 'kids are blooming! Not until next Tuesday!

I'm staying with my daughter and she is just starting to grow a few orchids. She has the Mabel Kandra and the blooms are gorgeous. I love the pink/green combo.

I have three paphs & a phrag amongst my bloomers at home. What I'm most excited about though is an Lc canhamaniana. (Probably way wrong on that spelling!) It had three nice buds that pushed thru the sheath on Tuesday before I left home. It's outside hanging in a tree and I do hope no bugs find it. I want sooooo badly to get to see the blooms.

I brought a couple young phals with me, having their first blooms. I just stuck both of them into a basket and loaded it right along with my suitcase. One is Sylvia's Dream, the other Baldan's Geisha, both cuties.

Loving this Spring weather, even here in Houston, Tx..

Oops, missed one. Neofinetia falcata has a small set of blooms going. I don't think this will be its main blooming, just a little preview.

I am a little envious of those of you who are blooming Paph delenatii. I have two, and they both don't seem to like me all that much. I wonder what I'm doing wrong?

{{gwi:166467}}I have a few things blooming but the one I am excited about it this Brazian Laelia sincorana. I only got it in February and it is a bit of a rescue, one of those plants that looked great on top but with few roots under the surface.

A bunch are in bloom. Here are a few favorites.

Ascocentrum christensonianum -- my favorite of the Ascocentrums, with pale pink flowers

Cattleya luteola -- smallest of the Cattleyas, this year it produced nine flowers, the most ever.

Chroniochilus virescens -- miniature which looks like a very tiny Phal and which puts our a few long-lasting spikes each year with sequential blooms. The first bud is about to open and I can't wait until for that exquisite fragrance of Twinkies is in the air. Yes, exactly like Twinkies.

Broughtonia sanguinea -- really would appreciate shorter spikes on this small plant.

Micropera rostrata -- a vandaceous type with spikes carrying numerous pinky/purple flowers

Lepanthopsis astrophora -- mini Pleurothallid with branched spikes of tiny purple flowers through much of the year.

Maxillaria tenuifolia -- buds just starting to peep out on this 3' wide plant, can't wait for coconut scent of Hawaiian Tropic suntan lotion.

Ornithocephalus bicornis -- mini fan-shaped growths with a multitude of spikes of tiny flowers covering the plant; I really like this genus, hope to get more species at Redlands.

Smitinandia macrantha -- small vandaceous type with sequential tiny pink flowers from a fat spike.

Seidenfadenia mitrata -- only one of the plants on the mount has bloomed this year with a couple spikes of pink fragrant flowers.

Bc (Bc Nodata x C. Judge Treiman) -- buds on a favorite nodosa type hybrid.

Darwinara Walnut Valley (D. Charm x Vandofinetia Virgil) --Neofinetia type with spikes of violet flowers.

Paph Lemonade (spiceranum x primulium) -- dependable green

Paph Armeni White (delanatii x armeniacum) -- dependable white.

Phal Mini Mark (Micro Nova x philippinense) -- white mini with overall orange spots and a bright orange lip, a real cutie.

Now for the Angs (only a few waking up):

Mystacidium capense -- a first-bloom seedling which managed to produce two spikes loaded with flowers (white, of course)

Jumellea comorense -- spikes starting

Jumellea confusa -- spikes starting

Microterangis hariotiana and Microterangis hildebrandtii are both almost finished blooming their spikes of orange flowers.

Do you see much difference between the Microterangis? I'm curious about hildebrandtii. In pics they seem to look rather the same.

Ooh, I've been really wanting Lepanthopsis astrophora. I'm thinking I might have to get one of those, along with Pleurothallis alata. Mine succumbed to something (Pleuro alata, I mean) and I don't think I can be without it anymore. I dearly loved that little guy.

My Cattleya luteola really does look like it will bloom soon. I'm excited, because I honestly thought it hated me. Phalaenopsis equestris has been in bloom for a long time now (another one I forgot to mention) but it is nearing the end, I think.

for me, things are just starting to finish up. i've still got phal brother yellow boy, a no longer peloric baldans kaleidescope 'floricultura', oncidium twinkle and three lc roja. the paphs, hawkinsara and aeranges just finished in the last two weeks

q, definitely get the Lepanthopsis; it is just an adorable floriferous mini. My Pleur alata, while surviving, doesn't seem to like it here either.

I have been promising myself for years that I will compare the two Microterangis species under the microscope, and keep forgetting to do so when they are in bloom. To the nekkid eye, they appear the same with a slight bit of difference in the leaves.

Good luck with your C. luteola. Mine blooms from dry sheathes, often with several flowers on each spike.

My two Phal equestris clones are not quite awake yet.

Cody, which Aerangis do you have?

Not much. Sold or gave away all but approx. 30 plants due to our move. What I kept had a rough time. These two surprised me.

Carol - can you post photos please? :) I have a luteola that seems to enjoy making new growths but doesn't really bloom...maybe you and Q can help me out, but how big do the pbulbs typically have to be? Mine are making new ones that are roughly the same size as the ones before (around an inch bulb with a 2.5inch leaf). I'm wondering whether that's 'blooming size' or something is wrong with my culture (I like to go by the fatter/taller pbulb rule)

Also, did you give your mystacidium a winter rest (drier and brighter?) Mr. B mentioned that he's heard this is important (I didn't do too dry or bright unfortunately) so I'm just trying to gauge what other people do. I wonder if I need to bake mine under higher lights (under low light right now)

Calvin, I only have the 2 photos from last year of my C. luteola stored at Yoshi's; both at the link (I can only 3-mail my other photos, my album doesn't cooperate). The average bulb measures about 2.5" (6-7cm) in length. That may be because I don't grow it in direct sun. But it has been blooming regularly for several years now.

I don't deliberately give my orchids a dry rest, except for Catasetums. But they do get less water in the winter because of the lower temps (60F), higher humidity and actually less light because of the angle of the sun. This first bloom on the Mystacidium was a genuine surprise since the plant is so small. I had killed a previous plant a few years ago.

I am sorry I didn't buy one when they were more available, Cody. I think Oak Hill had it for a while. I see you staked yours upright; that does seem to be the best way to handle the long dangling spike. If I ever find this hybrid or the grandiflora parent, I will definitely buy one.

i think this one may have come from oakhill. they come to the 'local' (over an hour away) orchid society's show every february.

Lots of new leads racing up so I'm hoping for a flowery June. Right now the PYP's are waking up and budding and several phals are in bloom. Most exciting for me is the first budding on my Neo falcata. Wasn't sure it would ever bloom for me but perhaps the cold winter did the trick. CJ, your list always makes me drool. I'm hoping to find an Asctm Christensonianum at Redland's. Would love to see a pic of your Dar Walnut Valley. I have Dar Charm Blue Star - hoping to see some buds soon.

Anyhow, this year has a lot more flowers from three branched spikes, and the flowers are a bit darker. This particular hybrid seems to only set one spike per fan, but then each goes on to branch into two or three spikes. Flowers are almost 2" across. Has some scent, but not worthy of mention. I got this plant in trade so I don't know where it came from originally.

Andy Phillips still has the Ascocentrum, it may not be too late to ask him to bring one to the show. I got mine from him about three years ago.

Terpguy: I don't know. I can tell you how it's growing though. It is on the top usable shelf of my plant shelf, which is in front of an unobstructed south facing window on the third floor. It is fairly close to the window, maybe about 4-5 inches away. The window is covered with a sheer mesh curtain, the cheap kind you get at Ikea. It is growing in a mix of coco fiber, tree fern fiber, and a bit of bark and lava rock (I think that's what it was). The bottom of the board above is lined with aluminum foil to attempt to reflect light downward. It's in a clear orchid pot with side slats, so when it looks dry, I water it. I try not to let it get totally dry, as I read somewhere that it likes to stay moist. It tends to bloom at least a couple times a year for me. I was surprised that it decided to bloom now, as it has been putting on a lot of new growth and I thought it would concentrate on maturing those. Hey, I won't say no to blooms.

So, I don't feel like I do anything special. Paph delenatiis don't bloom for me for anything though. At least one tried last year. This year, they didn't even try. I'm clearly doing something wrong. The one has been steadily shrinking too.

I did it, I got Pleuro alata and that Lepanthopsis. And of course, I forgot another bloomer, a Phal hybrid with a name I can't remember right now. It's a harlequin with yellow-green petals and burgundy spots, blooming since Januaryish. I'm keeping my eye on my Cattleya luteola, which has two buds getting steadily bigger and fatter. Exciting! Calvin, I can't really help with any tips on C. luteola. Like I said, I thought it hated me. It's about 5 inches away from an 85W CFL, and it kept growing too close to the light and burning off its leaves. So I'd get new growth, then lose it. Although I guess the pbulbs stuck around. That is what is spiking now, a leafless pbulb.

Great pics, CJ - it looks really nice! Guess mine might still be a tad small.
Q - thanks for the info..guess these like to bloom of more mature pbulbs. I'll just have to wait and see then I suppose.

I do have a semi-alba catt that just opened up today. can't post pics yet since it's still a bit green...but will try to get one up over the weekend.
