Books that are suppose to have a big influence

The DD is reading "Catcher in the Rye". Now I KNOW I read it. I cannot remember any details what so ever except that I couldn't figure out why it was so all fire important and why it had been banned.

I have read A Tale of Two Cities. Twice. All I can remember is that it is about the French Revolution.

Yet I can remember lines from Tarzan books, Emily Loring (I am almost afraid to confess that I read her), and from other books that were definately not the Classics.

When a storm is brewing the following line will flash into my head, I have no idea why I remember it.

"I tink it gonna rain purty dam'hard purty dam' quick"

ER Burroughs, the Swede in "The Return of Tarzan."
