If they work in cahoots, can they knock the fishbowl off the coffee table? I wouldn't want to leave them alone with Meow. Even if they can't get to the fish to munch, if they knocked the bowl off the table and all the water came out....

Good question. I'm not worried about them knocking it off. Kitty isn't big enough, and Izzy isn't interested enough... and has never put her paws up on the coffee table even when there's unsupervised food there... and is always kenneled in our absense. She seemed very interested in Kitty's response to Meow... but not particularly interested in Meow himself.

You are right that a gallon of water and glass shards on my floor would be awful for me... and worse than awful for Meow, but Izzy did not give me the impression she is willing to be that helpful... and doesn't have the opportunity to do so anyway...

How about some museum wax underneath the jar? that would secure it, without being a permanent feature. Just in case Kotie decides to give Meow a hug.

Unrelated question: where did you come up with the name Kotex for your cat? Makes my eyes roll just a bit.

How did we come up with Kotex, Pidge? I made the proverbial deal with the devil. You know, you negotiate the rules, but not the particulars, and you think you have all your bases covered, but you really don't?

When we were getting a kitten, I knew Steve would want to name her "Hoser." For 20+ years, he's wanted to give that name to an animal. He even suggested it for Izzy. So I pre-emptively put my foot down. I told him he was not allowed to name our kitty Hoser, since it was a stupid name and a boy's name to boot (we knew we were getting a girl cat). I said he could name the cat, so long as he abided by my naming guidelines:

1) The name needed to be phonetically dissimilar from Jazmyn (Jaz) and Isabella (Izzy) so there would be no confusion.

2) The name should somehow relate... as in it should contain a Z... or even an X (I was imagining "Xena" as an acceptable possibility).

3) The name needed to be unmistakably feminine.

... and that is how I got a cat named "Kotex." Honestly, my eyes rolled a lot in the very beginning, but now I'm more amused than anything. It doesn't really matter to me what a cat is named anyway... I mostly just call them all "Kitty" regardless...

Did your dh like the Farley Brothers? I think that was their name, the 2 guys who did the Canandian theme comedy, on Sat. night live, I think, and made a movie all about beer, saying "eh" and calling each other "hoser"?

I received a betta as a Christmas gift and, as with yours, Fishy Fish is a favorite of our cats, His bowl is in a glass display cabinet so they can't get as close, but they love watching him.
