a new family member?
Comments (51)FairyGM, I have some pretty good advice on diet that has worked really well for me with exotics. Get your Hedgie from someone who has managed to breed them instead of a store. Right off the animal will be healthier. Then follow the diet that the parents did well on. (Don't get a baby from sickly looking parents even if you need a friend to come along and drag you away!) All of my exotics except one(pity purchase shame on me...) came from people who bred their animals out of love not money. My animals are so healthy and have very few issues that others have had with their exotics. It's so worth the search and the wait to find the healthiest animal you can! Comments (4)hanz - I potted mine up in a dry mix. It was bone dry when it arrived, so I did mist it a bit after potting - something I usually do not do with cacti, but I noticed the orangey foliage in the center. So, I thought it would be okay to give it a really small drink, considering the free-draining mix it is in. It is now in a south facing window...gets pretty sunny there, should I protect it a bit? That window is where I have most of my C and S, so I thought it would be okay. Are these guys a little light sensitive? Thanks. T...See MoreIntroducing my new family members :-)

Lots of dogs around the country in need of homes, but lots of inspiring stories there, too. For people wondering why a senior dog ends up at the shelter, many times there is no legit reason and they just get dumped. Pets are often dumped in the summer because people want to go on vacation but don't want to pay a pet sitter. But frequently, it's because the owner died or went into assisted living. All pet owners should have a plan for their pets! If you are reading this, think about which friends or family members could be counted on to take care of your beloved pets and have a chat with them. I have worked in rescue and you would be amazed at how often family members will have a pet euthanized after the owner is gone, dump it at a shelter, give it to the first taker, or just put it outside to fend for itself. It's mind boggling....See Morechuckerfly
